Greetings
I just got some new wheels and tires for my '83S Euro 5sp. In putting them on, I noticed that there is a discrepancy from side to side in clearance for the tires. Prior to rolling the inside lip on the rear fenders, I had about .25" clearance on one side and literally .125"
(if that) on the other side. Is that within normal production tolerances?
I don't believe there has been any damage to the rear of the vehicle so I was wondering if this is normal?
I also wondered how much clearance is enough so that I don't get rubbing on bumps or hard cornering? Can I get there with baseball bat flares, or will I require either body work, or smaller tires?
Thanks in advance for your counsel and suggestions.
Cheers!

Jerry,
Thanks for the feedback. I looked at your website and you are running the same size rear tires as I am, 275x40x17, but I am running wider wheels, 11 1/2" instead of the 9" wide which is, I believe, what you are running .
I have only tried this fit in my neighborhood, going really slowly so far. I am not getting rubbing on one side, but the really close side is rubbing even when going around very slow corners (10mph) so I am going to have to do something. I have already flattened the inside lip on the fenders and it still rubs. I will do more investigating and perhaps make a small flare to solve the problem.
Thanks again.
