Satellite Radar
Seeing all the radar detector posts I thought I would tell you about my recent purchase. I bought the Uniden GPSRD detector off Ebay for 200.00. If you’re not familiar with this unit, here are some quick features this unit possesses:
First of all it has GPS features, which give you your basic features
Latitude, longitude,
Feet above sea level
Provides you with a digital Speedometer
Records your max speed and average speed
And much more, for more info check out
http://www.uniden.com/gpsrd/
Personally I think the best feature of this detector is the anti-falsing feature. For example lets say you drive by the neighborhood grocery store everyday. And everyday it sets off your current radar detector’s alarm. Well with the anti-falsing feature of the Uniden, it marks the location via satellite, along with signal strength and radar band used. Then it calculates the strength of the band used and realizes it is more than likely a non-police radar emission. Next time you drive by the store guess what? No more false warning, however if the radar band is stronger or of a different type, it tells you. It also allows you to mark locations such as common speed trap areas or your residence. Just the other day while driving home from work it flashed the words “HOME” across the LED display. Because it is GPS it tracks your driving patterns and it new I was headed home. Then it told me that I was 5.4 miles from home and at my current rate of speed I would be home in a 6.4 minutes. It also provides little arrows telling me where to turn, but those are pretty much useless.
If anyone else has this model or has any questions about it let me know, I’d be interested in hearing from you.
Thanks
Quinn

Quinn, sounds interesting. The down side would be that if stollen, the thief would have directions to your house or office to clean you out of the rest of your neat stuff

I don’t have any pictures as of yet however as soon as I get some I will post them. As far as the install goes, it came with the standard coiled cigarette lighter cord. They have a fuse box cord as well as a strait cord, for now I just have the cord tucked into the seams of the dash and from there to my cig. I’ll try to post pictures ASAP.

True if law enforcement could track your vehicle via your GPSRD it would not be a good thing. However if you could plant a little receiver on the police cars, that would be a different story. Actually there are 27 satellites used in this system, all of which are maintained by the federal government, another example of our taxes at work.

Only feasible if there is a transmitter located within that little gadget Jay. GPS units simply receive and process signals, sorta like your car radio does.

To select a destination there are a few things you can do. First of all it has all fifty states programmed in it along with many cities in each state. So you can punch in Vegas and it will tell you how far it is yadda yadda. As far as other locations such as home or work. You simply press mark location as home. For example When my car is in my driveway, I select “mark location” then you can scroll through options such as airport, hotel, till you find Home. Then you push the mark button and it marks the latitude and longitude of your house. There is no computer involved amazingly enough all that info is stored in outer space. Because it must track and chart your driving patterns, otherwise it wouldn’t be able to tell me that I am headed home, without me doing anything to it. The owner’s manual says it can store up to 1000 locations. I think… I’ll have to check on that.
