I just made my first pass at cleaning the engine today. I have had the car a little over a week now so I thought that a should give it a shot. Boy, these 928 engines really cleanup well. All of that aluminum and black ducting look sharp when they are clean. I don't think the PO ever touched this area so it needed some elbow grease.
I discovered some wires that go to nowhere, that end up if front of the radiator. I think that these may go to the aftermarket alarm siren that the PO told me he took out. I also discovered some small switches in the roof of the glovebox. One the right side is a small (very small) button and on the left is a small toggle switch. Am I correct in assuming that the aftermarket alarm unit is probably spliced into the fusebox ? I haven't had time to check it out yet, I'm still cleaning other items.

that toggle switch could actually come in handy. you could wire it to be a fuel pump cut-off switch.
switch it off, lock the glove box, car goes no where. at least not very far...

Rob/928modeler,
Sounds like you're on the right track:
- wires up front likely went to aftermarket alarm siren
- small button in glovebox likely went to aftermarket alarm head to control various functions (e.g., de/activate valet mode)
- toggle switch may already be ignition cutoff or fuel pump cutoff (as David H. suggests)
Did PO tell you why s/he removed the aftermarket alarm?
Cheers..... <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

The PO removed the siren part of the alarm because his wife got sick of hearing the thing. I just wanted to get rid of it because it seemed like it was flaky, but I am kind of getting used to it now. Before I start the car, I must hit the button on the remote otherwise the car will not turn over. If I could just cover up the LED display in the console then I could live with it. but the remote contains a battery, I think. I can't depend on that thing never going sour, that's why I want to get rid of it altogether and just have the stock alarm system.
