Post Engine swaps

I currently own an 83 928, and was wondering if anyone had any idea if you can replace the 16 valve with a 24 valve engine? If anyone has any idea if it is possible, or how difficult it would be, please write. My eventual goal is 380hp. any hints on attaining it would be appreciated.

Well, I gotta tell ya - that'll havta be one he!! of a 6 banger to get 380 hp

Anyway - there are some that have made the swap from the 16v to the 32v. You would also have get some electrical components as well (like wiring harnesses and a few other goodies I believe).

Something to keep in mind - overall - it may be less expensive to just buy an 85+ car than retrofit a pre 85 car with the bigger engine.

Just MHO.

I've just bought an 86 euro engine (16 valve, 310hp) and am hoping to have it installed in my '81 928 over the next couple of months. I'll let you all know how it goes.

spaintj, the swap you want to do can be done and all the parts you will need can be had used from a few differant places. It all depends on how many duckies ($$) you want to cut loose of.

I would love to do a project like your thinking about myself. I think mine might be a tad more twisted then yours.

My dream starts like this;

Start with any MY 928 (US spec) strip it down to the frame.

1.Repaint and add body kit.
2.Install updated wiring, relays and new engine management in car.
3.Install upgraded suspension (included custom TT, trans, wheels and tires).
4.Install custom radiator, intercooler and condensor.
5.Install new 5.4L / 8:1 compressor with custom SC or TT and exhaust.
6.Install custom light Wt. interior.
7.Install everything else!

8.Test drive car, on the way to devorce court.
9. Hand title to judge, who give it to now ex-wife, who sells it on E-bay for pennies on the dollar.
10.Load 357 mag. with 158gr and point to head.

Scratch 8 through 10 that was the bad nightmare after the dream.

Cheers

Max

Thanks for the help. I think I might just hold off, and keep the car the way it is. It is a nice car to drive arround on the weekend, but I think (if the rumors are true) I will hold off and pick up an Subaru Impreza STi.
