Default Test Drive Results...

I test drove a 1978 5 speed today. aka, my potential project car. I am basically looking for a starter project car to play around with. I am curious what you gentlement think of this car relative to the price. My original thought is that this car needs more than I am willing to put into it. Sorry, no pics, so I'll do my best to explain.

Asking Price $2,500 dollars

Paint/Body:
Black on Black, minor fender dent, minor rust on rear window, the rest of the body and glass looks solid, with a replacement gray painted hood. Window trim needs paint and/or resealing. Missing rear latch, missing hood release cable,

Looks good from twenty feet, but will definately need paint all the way around to look good.

Wheels/Suspension:
Mint conditon 18 inch later model 928 Porsche alloys with fairly new tires.
Owner has receipts for $1,500 dollars in suspension parts upgrades. Car sits low, suspension looks and feels excellent. Right caliper makes some noise until warm, owner claims caliper is sticky...?

Engine:
Fired right up, idled right at 1,100 rpm, sounded very nice, very smooth, power seemed right. No obvious leaks. Engine bay looked dusty/dirty. Minor lifter sound that went away after warmup. It drove very smoothly, but the previous service history mostly unknown!

Trans:
5 speed Shifted smoothly, although second gear was less smooth than the others.

Interior:
New black leather racing seats look new, carpet and headliner ripped, dash cracks, no dash lights, and ignition switch broked due to theft. No back seats.

thanks,

Al

Al, I'd pass. If you're willing to spend 2500, you can find much better.

offer him 1500 you dont need a good paint job to have a fun car to drive, but it helps.
You didnt mention the miles or the service history when was the belt done? TT bearings/clutch, brakes replaced you may need to rebuild the front calipers if on is sticking they both will

Nothing really to contribute to this thread, other than:

Those chastity belts on those sculptures in your avatar are, by far, the most complicated ones I've ever seen.

Nice job of capturing the female form, though.
