Starter wiring
Can anyone tell me where the wires attach on the starter? When I removed it 6 weeks ago, it looked real easy, so I didn't mark them <img border="0" alt="[nono]" title="" src="graemlins/nono.gif" /> !
There's a large black one, a large red one, and a small red one.

You should be able to match the size of lug nuts with size of posts on the starter solenoid. And if the above diagram didn't help, here's quoting Wally from Greg Nichol's site:
"Large battery cable. This hooked directly to battery positive.
Medium-sized red wire hooked to the same post. This is the feed wire from the alternator that charges the battery
Smaller yellow wire, hooked to a different post. This is the wire from the starter relay that supplies power to trigger the starter solenoid. This should have voltage only when the start relay is energized, which should happen only when the ignition switch is in the start position and the auto trans is in neutral or park."

Just to clarify - the black cable AND the red medium-sized wire go to the same post on the solenoid (S1 in the above diagram)? I'm not used to putting black wires and red wires together...
And the smaller wire (yellow or brown) goes to the small post (S4 in the diagram)?

That is correct.
The large black cable leads to the positive (+) terminal on the battery, and the red cable directs power from the alternator to the battery at this junction on the starter.
Yes on the yellow wire to S4 for model years '84 and later.

Eric,
yes, but to be sure (you never know what a PO may have done) and for your piece of mind, run a continuity test from that black cable to the + cable at the battery
And yes on the yellow/brown wire (you should be able to run a continuity test for this to pin 86 on the starter relay (Relay XIV)
