Default Hood Hinges (alignment rv)

I've been trying to get my hood to line up and close properly for quite some time. The drivers side at the rear of the hood won't move "down" to the proper position. When I close it there is a 1/2 inch gap. I figured that it was just a bad hinge but after switching it out, that seems to not be the case. Passenger side is perfect.

I got a new hinge and installed it, moved stuff about, up, down, front, back and the drivers side will not lower down as it should. with the new hinge it sits as it did with the old one. I take the hood shock off, and it does the same thing. I've tried a few different hood shocks thinking that I had a rear hatch one on there (higher compression pushing the hood up) not the case here.

I'm at a total loss as to what else to try. The hinges are greased up very well and after two changes, I can't seem to get things to change. The car has not been in a front end collision so I can cancel out any tweaks to the frame. One of our other members here in the DFW crew is having the same issue and neither of us can come up with a solution. I watch how the '90 works and something is preventing the '88 from working. There are no obstructions.........I'm at a loss.

Any thoughts?

Sean
Hood alignment is a bit of an art....all of the few that I have done were done with the shocks off...then after installing the shocks it rose up a touch and needed to be re-adjusted

You got the hinges lubricated thats a biggie.....

Something sounds out of alignment......if you are really brave try this.....take the hood off the other 928 and swap them out...I bet you that the 88 has a bent hood or some other bent fender problem...if it does the same thing on the 90...then you solved it

But of course this requires taking the hood off the perfectly good 90...... ????

I'd get shot if I started to screw with her hood. Good idea though.

What I find weird is, I take the shocks off, with the drivers side bolts loose, and it lines up perfect. I raise the damn thing and it goes wack.

Sean, will the hood move down to the correct position when pushing down on the hood with loose bolts? If so, you need to snug the bolts just tightly enough that the hood won't go out of alignment when you raise it, but loose enough to adjust the height of the hood by hand when it's closed. Then when in position tighten the bolts to spec.

I just did this last weekend. Aryan is right. Tighten the bolts so they are just snug enough to not allow the hood to move without force. Get the hood where you want it, open it, tighten the bolts, open and check again. I fought with it for awhile until I did it this way, then it only took two tries.

SeanR:

I had that same problem with mine (about 1/4") on the driver's side.
Here's what I did to fix the problem:
I removed the hinge from the car and enlarge the holes
(the ones that hold the hinge to the car) by the top so the hinge and consequently the hood sit lower.

Now everything is perfectly align.
