Red face What can I say?

Hello.
I picked up my car today, after 2 months and three weeks at the Automatic Transmission overhaul shop. That's only 2 months longer than he said it would take.
The car..hmmmm. Transmission works fine, I would even say very good.
Speedometer...not at all....a "klonking" sound from the rear.... and after driving it for about 60 miles, I shut it down and tried to restart, nothing. Starter would not turn. I could however hear the relay clicking.
I got a new starter a few months back, but You never know. I crawled under the car with a piece of wire and the hotwired the starter, just fine as I thought. Must be something then with the P-N switch.
Called the guy who did the work, sure, the switch was not in a very good condition so he had to use a plastic tie strip to hold it in place.!!!!!!!!!
WHAT THE H#%%.
I ended up bypassing the switch by unplugging and rewire.
Now, at least it starts. No backing lights though.
I wonder what he was thinking of.
All this for the small fee of 3200 USD.
What a bargain. Makes me wonder what else he did.

Any ideas about the speedometer?

Search for "Speedometer" in past posts. The "Odometer stopped...and heat" post has some good information.

Hello Moss.
That is the first thing I did after walking through my door.
Could not find the wire they talked about.
I will check it out again.

Thank You Moss.

I will start investigating as soon as time permits.
My 928 is from 79, it has the 3 speed auto. I wonder if it is the same setup with wiring?

I really need to get those manuals...........

What was the cause of your second gear starts? Its nice to hear your transmission is working fine. You have an electronic speedometer (great German technology). The sending unit is located on the rear of the differential cover. The unit has 2 wires, green and brown, that go into the spare wheel well. It’s the square plug. With the rear of the car safely up on jacks and the engine running, transmission in drive with the wheel turning. Unplug the connector. With a voltmeter connected to the plug that goes to the differential. You should see a DC voltage, changing with the rotation of the wheel s

Good luck

Unhappy

Hoyo,
I think you just paid for someone's trip to Hawaii. <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />
Back in the mid-70's I had a couple of CL 250 and CL 305 Honda's - shsdes of Torsten Hallman and Bengt Aberg-. The carb needle seats were gone on the one of my 305's and the shop ordered me a set from J.C. Whitney - under $50.00 each - but it cost me $460.00 to ride home. That slowed my party down a lot. From that experience I became a fair bike mechanic.
But, we do own Porches ... and sometimes fixing them ourseleves are a bit above our capeabilities.
Hope this doesn't sour you on your sHARk.

Hello Steve.
The guy told me he had turned the valve(s) for the regulator the wrong way when installing it.
The transmission works just great now.
As far as the "clonking" sound, I found out today that he forgot to tighten up the shocks at the upper mount, I could turn the nut around with my fingers.
I called him today to ask him about the P-N switch, as I mentioned earlier he knew it was bad, NOT in his jobdescription to fix or notify his customer, and, the car worked fine when I came to pick it up, not his problem.
About the speedometer wires, yepp he had seen them but did not think it would matter to leave them disconnected when reinstalling the transmission.
I think I will have problems recommending this shop to anybody.
I will see about the Speedometer this coming weekend.
I really appreciate your help during this time of great despair.

John.
I still care a lot for my shark, love to have it back with a good tranny under it.
I tried to overlook the travelcatalogues in his office.
You had to remind me didnt You?
