Clifford Alarm
While thoroughly cleaning and checking contacts in interior of My Shark. I found PO had a 'Clifford' alarm installed. The bvrain is installed behind the fuse panel That doubles for the 'Star Trek' Guidance panel. PO did not give me the remote.
Question being:
1. Should I keep the alarm installed, contact Clifford, for a remote, and possibly diagnois what modules came with the alarm.
2. Just remove the 'Clifford'

I dont know anything about a Clifford but when I bought mine it had an old Code Alarm System with no instructions.
It was not connected correctly either with many wires.
I found a guy to hook it up correctly and got a new remote. Only got charged $20 plus the remote and it works great.
This might work for you.

If you would like to have the added features that come with an aftermarket alarm, than keep it.
As you noted, the Energy Transporter Element (fuse Panel) brakes up each of the 928’s electrical functions in a way that a person could run both the factory and aftermarket or one of either.
I would recommend getting a wire diagram / operating instructions and a remote from Clifford to see if it was installed correctly to start with. You will also need the wire diagrams for you’re MY 928.
I have read posts from many 928 owners who have had aftermarket alarms and they say they feel very confident about the 928’s factory alarm system.
It’s really just a matter of choice.
Good luck

As a new owner (3 days now), I would like to know if the alarm that the car came with is stock. I suspect it is not. It came with a keychain unit with 2 buttons on it. The PO had no idea what the right button did, so he never touched it. Inside the car, apart from the LEDs in the door lock posts, there are 2 funky looking red and green LEDs in front of the window switches on the center console. The clock is also missing and in it's place is some "Cylon-esque, Knight Rider looking LED that goes back and forth. I want to get rid of this thing (especially the disco light) and get it back to stock. Can I take it to a Car Alarm place and have them take out the guts. I don't need a clock, so I would just cover that space up. Thanks

Robert,
If it came with a remote it isn't stock.
Yes you should probably (very carefully) rip that junky stuff out (but...*). You might want to get a replacement clock if you want it to look stock since I belive all 928's came with a clock (digital or analog of several flavors). Wait till you can pick an appropriate one up on ebay or scrap.
Next thing to check is whether the factory alarm is still there & works. It just uses the keys to arm/disarm as you open the doors/hatch. If you can get the door lock post LED to flash when you lock the car with the key you probably still have it installed & OK.
Many folks complain about the stock alarm, but - if its working right - I don't think it is bad at all. It has starter disable, protects radio (if connected), glove box, rear hatch, hood as well as the doors and the door lock post LED's are pretty cool too. Best of all though is the window & sunroof closing feature when you hold it in the lock position.
*If your remotes arm/disarm the factory alarm and lock the doors you might want to keep this while eliminating the uneccessary extra displays. Keyless entry is quite a desireable feature as an add on if done nicely since the factory didn't fit it.
If your factory alarm doesn't seem to work check you have the right keys - alarm keys are longer than non-alarm keys @exactly 2" blade length.
Next look for the alarm module - unfortunately it was located in several places (usually relatively hard to get to) depending on model year. Let me know if you needmore help on this (don't have the manuals here).
HTH
Alan
PS I'd be a bit wary of an alarm store.. there are at least twice as many wires as on the average car and little chance they will have worked on one before. Go to a good place (ask around)& make sure you get one of their top people.

Robert,
That Cylon LCD ....is there more than one color?
If so you might not be looking at an alarm component.
Are you having any door lock problem?

If you are thinking that it might be some part of a graphic equalizer... that's not it. It comes on after I push the left button on the remote. It's located where the clock should be and then there are those other blinking LEDs in front of the console switches.
I tried locking the door with the keys and that resulted in the locks going down and the LEDs on the door lock posts blinking. When I hold the key in that position, nothing else happens. It sounds like maybe both systems are working ?
I wouldn't have a problem with that, but sometimes when I shut the car off and then try to restart it later I get a clicking sound coming from under the right side of the dash and then the car will not start until I press the button on the remote.
What I would most like is a very simple (alarm) system that stays off until I actually lock the car or turn the alarm on myself.
The image shows the location of the offending LEDs and an ugly CD changer that I wish to rip out. But that's another story...

Robert,
Nope! The reason I asked if there were different color LCD's is that you may have a ARM - 1 which is an aftermarket Air/fuel Regulator Meter. I think Jay from Arkansas had one on his sHARk and a couple of other guy's posted on the ARM-1 and it's installation last spring or summer. As I recall most of them installed a dial type fuel pressure gauge somewhere around the fuel rails as well.
Both are for diagnostics.
Maybe Jay or others will see your flicks and comment or you can repost a ARM-1 query.
BTW Nice interior!

Robert,
Sounds from what you said that the factory alarm is there & working (probably).
Try this - open the windows & sunroof, then lock the door (any inc hatch (anticlockwise)) & hold key in lock position - it should in sequence close both windows & sunroof.
Seems likely that something is screwed up in the new alarm or its wiring for the other 'feature' you mentioned - maybe it would be best to rip it out carefully & install a clean Keyless Entry system if you want to retain the remote capability, else just go with the standard keys
A good way to test may be to just locate the new alarm and remove power to it (should act all benign at this point) see if you still have any problems for a while...
Of course it could be the factory alarm too but this does not sound like the usual symptoms - usually lock related from what I have read over the last few years.
Shame someone messed up the console upholstery.

John,
I never thought of that. I have seen some posts on this before and have seen the image on Tony's website showing where the meter can be found, I just never thought that there might be a digital display inside the car. It looks very... "cheesy" in a way. I don't know really how to say it. It looks like it is there to draw attention to it and does not give any impression of accuracy or precision. I will check.
Alan,
The windows do not go up if I keep the key in the lock position. The doors lock and the LED posts blink, but no windows. I am going to take your advice and if the above mentioned disco display isn't part of some air / fuel diagnostic system, will try to find where the power to the added alarm is coming from and disable it. I would imagine that any added system would be piggy-backed from the fuse box or something like that.
I went through the owners manual and read about the Porsche anti-theft alarm and the central door locking system. It doesn't say anything about the windows closing when the key is kept in the lock position from outside. Was that standard or might that have been an option that my car does not have ?

Jerry,
That looks great ! You know, I may just leave the stereo alone and create a cover out of acrylic and cover it with some black cloth to make it blend in more like how you have it. I like that a lot and it saves me from having to toss out the system.

Hi-
I know little about aftermarket alarms...and only slightly more on the factory one.
However, I did (as John S mentioned) install the ARM-1 in my center console, along with the Fuel Rail pressure gauge. I installed the ARM-1 in the piece that has the seat belt warning lights (between AC and lock buttons).
For a look, go to 928 Specailist home page (www.928gt.com/) and click on the adjustable fuel pressure regulator link on the left scroll bar.
