Thumbs down mechanic problem

HI:

New to the 1986, 928s world. Recently took my car to, L.A. Meister, 1711 S. La Cienega Blvd., L.A. Water pump recently went out, destroy valves, top end, you know the works. Shop stated the can handle the job, 2300 dollars in labor only. Four months later, finally retrieved my car, with only the head gasket done, and nothing more. Shop had no tools to lay the cams. I basically received the run around. After taking a trip to the Bureau of Automotive repair, was able to retrieve my car with out paying anything. Can anybody recommend a good 928s shop in the LAX, or surrounding area, that can finish the job. Remember, I did get a head gasket out of the deal.

You’ll find the “search feature” on Rennlist to be quite helpful. Read the “Any good San Diego 928 mechanics” post. I hear PERFORMANCE PLUS in Canoga Park is highly recommended; also, German Auto Art in Santa Monica seems to get rave reviews. Ask for Marcus Herm…310-450-2266…1666 Euclid Ave. I personally have not used them yet.

Good luck
Tim

by the by...did you alert the BBB about this auto shop?

Angelo,
Look no further than PERFORMANCE PLUS in Canoga Park. I can't encourage you enough to go speak to Mark the owner. In fact this guy was the mechanic for the guy (Mark) who ownes 928 International. Don't even waste your time with other folks on this. Get AAA to tow you over. They can handle anything you throw at them there. If Mark isn't around, talk with David or Jim. Good Luck, and TRUST ME on this one!!!!! <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

When I lived in LA my mechanic was N & W German Auto repair on Fairfax and Pico. The guy that owns the place is named Walter and he's one of the nicest guys I've ever known. Very reasonable labor prices. Mostly they do Mercedes repair but he always has 2 or 3 928s he's working on and a half dozen 911s. He did a thousand dollar+ timing belt/water pump change for me and it developed a small squeek from one of the pullys a week later. I complained about it and he tore the entire front of the engine off and fixed it no questions asked and no charge. Any other Porsche mechanic I've been to would have given me a hard time about fixing a tiny squeek.
