Timing belt position on gear?
#16
When looking through the vent hole I can see by belt ride back and forth a little bit , about 1 to 2 mm. I have about 700 0r 800 miles on it since I did my belt are they supposed to track dead straight?

Gotta a new digi camera from Santa with a macro setting; still playing with the new toy.
As mentioned on another thread I'm going back in to adjust the cam timing and shall take some pics of how the tbelt system looks after the install and a good running in period.

I'm feeling much better about my belt position, now.
They should tend to stay in one spot. Mine wavers just a touch, not even 1mm, though. 2mm is a lot. Did you change the tensioner arm bushings? Badly worn (shiny) gears will do this too.

I resemble that remark. My crank is not worn, my cam gears are new. It is riding near the front.
Thank you Ken for picking up on this. I thought it might be riding closer to the front b/c the belt had been overtightened on the old gears, and it made me uncomfortable, but now feel better as this appears normal. I was probably being paranoid.

I did all new gears and after a few thousand miles.. it's still tracking ~3mm from front gear edge on both sides.

I would check the belt tension. Could be the belt is loose.
