Well, my local VeeDub'ya store could not get a 3B0-955-531, and the dealer had to order from LA for $47 (=list price everywhere), so I went a searchin' on the infernet and found prices from $68 (with IPD sticker) to $20. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

For a simple stop-light speed reduction function, which would only be triggered if set on low speed wiper:
Put a relay that would be triggered by the brake light feed, which would interrupt the low-speed feed and route it through the intermittant feed .

 

What is they best way to get the old relay out?

Has anyone made their own tool?

 

Jim - I was able to extract mine by wiggling the relay gently, up, down, left, right and pulling slowly.

I've been driving around town today with the horn relay swapped rear wiper (drizzling). I'm going to keep it this way!

It only wipes once, it's faster(?), and the blade stops just 2" from the edge, versus the 3-wipe which would often stop up to 6" from the left hand side!

Auto parts stores often sell a tool for removing stubborn spark plug boots. This is nothing but a strip of metal bent 90 degrees at the end. It can be used to remove sticking relays too.

To use this, DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY GROUND STRAP, and slip the tab under the bottom of the relay and pull back.

-Don't hit yourself in the face like I did!

Relay removal:
1. weld custom made 2' long black pipe T-handle to top of suspect relay.
2. Move pass. seat to full rear position.
3. Get willing companion to sit on front edge of seat firmly gripping T-handle.
4. Start car, put in 1st gear and FLOOR IT!

(This does not work for bad fuel pump, EZK, Exc. relays) :^0

 

Is 3B0-955-531 still the relay to look for?

 

VW/Audi 99 relay is the one I have used in my 928. It is programmable and works perfectly for me. Installed 9 months ago no problems.

 

When putting the Bosch Nr (0 986 335 058) of the relay into this site:

one gets the correct VW Nr (1HM955531A) as equivalent part BUT also this P/N:

"PORSCHE 928 615 101 01 (92861510101), Relay, wipe-/wash interval"

Seems such a relay is also used for the wipe-wash-function (can't look at my car right now). Can anyone verify this?

Never mind, I checked it out and it turns out that the parts reference site got it wrong: the 928 P/N is the actual relay that is used in our cars for the intermittent wipers which requires the potentiometer.
