Hehe, you're a little off Mike. The 'Maus' was anything but fast, as it weighed 188 tons !! (As far as I know the heaviest tank ever built)

Two prototypes were all that they made, so not a weapon in operational use.

Cheers,
Erling

As I said... I could be, and was, wrong! Pretty sure I remember reading about the Maus, though, as a small, nimble tank. It was built by Porsche, though, right?

Build, or designed rather at least partly by Ferdinand Porsche; yes. Nimble; not exactly....

Cheers,

I'd love to see a pic of Uday's 928.
It probably looks a lot like this one:

I've got a book here called "Volkswagen and the Third Reich" Tons of Pics of Dr. Porsche and Hitler together, lots of info on his Military Designs like Panzer and Tiger tanks as well as The beetle, Kubelwagen and Scwimmwagen. A interesting read for the Porsche enthusiast.

There's a VW specialist down the street from my office that has a Scwimmwagen parked outside, on the curb. I think he drives it every day because it's rarely there at night. Pretty crazy.

THe book mentions that those are incredibly rare now and would be worth a fortune! Amazing, I'd love to see one, Does it have the inboard/outboard boat motor on the back yet?

I really don't know what to look for. I don't recall an outboard motor. Maybe I'm mistaken about the model? It's basically an amphibious VW. I remember it's got a prop on the back.

Yeah, it was the first I/O boat motor, motor on the inside and a stern drive came out the back that would turn the boat and would come out of the water when the vehicle was on land..

Similar to Mercruiser I/Os of today but of course the first of it's type.

I'll take some photos if it's there tomorrow.

Well the stars finally aligned and he drove it on a day I was walking past and had my camera in my office.

I stopped and chatted with him a bit a few months ago, and he says he actually has two of these, plus a few other vintage VWs. One I see him drive more often now is an early '50s model that has a "what is it?" write up taped to the back driver's side window. When I asked him if he intends to store them at some point, his answer was along the lines of "bah! cars where made to be driven!".
