Have you any interest in an 850 bmw..That car always looked great (not as great as the 928) . I don't know many specifics, but another cool car. V12 I think.

Ive had a ride in that car up to SITM a few years a ago..clean and nice. If the road turned upside down i think it would still stick to it....great handling!

I am just going by Motor Trend tests for both cars Mr.Kibort...um...0-100..11.3...12.8 seconds for the GTS...0-60 is 4.6 for the M5...5.7 for the GTS...it even takes longer to stop...60-0 is 116 feet for an M5 while its 135' for a GTS...so...its obvious that the two ton curb weight of the M5 means ****...I love my 928...but...the only thing stopping an M5 from running circles around me and a GTS is its speed limited 155....thank goodness...cuz its not even close....Oh yeah...I haven't even started with all of the creature comforts...or luxuries the M5 has to offer....An M5 is a far superior car in all aspects...sometimes the truth hurts even for the most spirited 928 lover

I found a '01 BMW 540 with a Dinan package for 13,800, too. I need to look at that one. Seems to cheap.

Let me toss this out. I would be very interested in an 86.5 5 speed new rub strips and in very good condition, too.

Those tests usually parallel HP to weight. If they dont, there are too many factors to list. we are talking e39, so the 400hp BMW?
if so, there is a 50hp difference.
as far as "running circles" around a GTS, this means not a straigth line, right?Yes, 0-60 would possibly be owned by the M5, with the GTS in reality, not too far behind. (in fact, they would have near the same HP/weight ratio)
So, you give me a GTS and you can find a pro driver to grab a BMW M5, and we do a "circle" test. Im pretty confident that you wont find much of a differnce, PROVIDING, we get the same size and type of tires. Keep in mind , that 13-15 years ago, when the GTS was being sold, it was running on 235 and 255 front and rear tires. I think the M5 has bigger tires, which could explain its better stopping distance. (or how about the many other factors of that day the stopping test was done, like TIRES for example! )
Im sure the M5 could hit the 195mph mark, which again, is a ratio of HP to drag, not HP to weight. Remember, we are talking about "running circles" around a 928, especially a 928. the 928 is smaller , lighter and has a lower center of gravity. it has bigger brakes as well. You can take all the factors that make a race car fast, plug them into the "computer" and you will see a 928 with only 50 less hp, but 500less lbs of weight, should be able to dominate, but at worst, be very very close to the same, on all levels.
Now as far as "comfort ", and other esoteric measurements, I still have yet to find a car more comfortable to drive. Now, the luxury components of the M5 SMOKE ("run circles") around the 928, hands down, ill give you that!
I've driven the 928 (and raced it in most all forms) ive also driven the M5, in stock form. Its a heck of a car, tons of fun for a big car. Lots of power!! But, to make a statement that it can run circles around a car with its only advantage being 50 more hp, is kind of bold.

Good on you Mark I was waiting for the second shoe to drop...now mention how the Speed GT authorities used to add/subract 50 lbs from a car to equalize competition...

done forget about the "S" brakes on this HUGE car.
I was being nice. In reality, the GTS would smoke the BMW M5 in almost any performance area, except 0-60 where they would be close with the same driver, and same tires. Now, on the the tires they came with from the factory, would be a huge disadvatage on the GTS, as tires are THE most important part of the perforamance equation when comparing car, ESPECIALLY if we are talking about different sizes or compounds.
