Smile Porsche Calendar Coin(s)

Now that you've opened this (and potentially created a interest)...

I've developed an interest in these unqiue items. Anyone else on here that has the same affliction?

Just curious...

I have 86, 87, and all from 91 onwards. I wonder, when they started making those.

Nicole-

Bruce Anderson once told me that the Calendar Coins first appeared in 1963, if I remember correctly.

All - First...my mistake, the coins began in 62, not 63 as I mentioned before. My apologies.

Randy-

The coins are of a bronze material and were furnished with the factory Porsche Calendar beggining as mentioned above. Each one is unique in it's own right. Each year features a different Porsche model along with some script and the year on the coin. Each coin is ~40 mm in diameter (about the size of a silver dollar for reference).

I've spent the last 2 years tracking these coins down, and currently, close to completeing the entire collection from 62 to present.

I believe it came with the 1987 Porsche Calendar.

Jerry-

Yep, came with the Calendar that year (S4). Also, the 928 was on the 78 Calendar Coin as well.

There was also a special commemorative Car of the Year coin produced by Porsche for the 78 year. Same size and material, only had symbols/writing on 1 side though.

Kinda neat - I think that the 928 is the only Porsche model to date to win the dubious honor of Car of the Year.

Virtually all other models have been featured on these coins...911/911T/914/930/924/944/968, even the Cayenne (this years coin).
