I am planing on trying this in near future hopefully. Where are the turbos located on your car? I really couldnt tell from the pics of it.. Thanks.

The turbos on my car are located underneath the engine, very low, so low that oil has to be pumped back to the crankcase. It is TIGHT to say the least. I can send you some pics if you want to see them.

My advice:

Don't waste your time trying to fit turbos on your car unless you have a lot of extra time on your hands and are good with a TIG welder. I'd bet there is a few hundred labor hours in the manifolds and exhaust work on my car alone.

Look into supercharging. I would look into a Z-engineering blower setup.....perhaps two of them. You will then need to adjust the fuel pressure and perhaps add more fuel under boost.

If you do a low boost application at say 5 psig, you can probably get away without a charge cooler making your install not too bad.

If you have access to all of the tools, you could do the turbocharging, but trust me it is a very tight squeeze in the engine bay on a 928. I no longer have the patience to do that kind of job.

I have found a place near me that will do, and it will be under 10k for everything i want to do.. I was wondering about the placement of the turbos. I am supposed to take my car there sometime and have them look at it for a estimate.They do all of thier own fabrication. Turbo are more efficent than superchargers though. I have look at the blowers you were talking about but have not called anyone about them yet.. I would probably use a link system to run extra fuel injectors.

I don't believe you could do it for $10,000. The turbos alone will run you close to $2,000, another $800+ for an intercooler, and then all of the rest of the stuff. I suppose it is possible, but there is a lot of Fabrication work to be done under there. Rumor has it that the owner of the last car done by Callaway has an entire spare kit. At the time, Callaway was charging close to $20,000 for their kit (installed), that was back in 1983.

Here is what was done to my car:

2 IHI RHB 6 turbochargers
Air Research Intercooler
Custom exhaust manifolds
Custom intake piping
Relocated Air Flow Meter
Custom Oil Cooler
Scavenger Pump System
1973 914 1.7l fuel injectors
2 additional injectors in main air stream
Callaway Microfueler "Black Box"
Full Custom 2.25" exhaust

You are correct, in that turbochargers are more efficient than a supercharger, but I know the supercharger will be a lot less to install and make work.....trust me here. If I had a dollar for every minute I spent under my car I'd be a very rich man indeed. It is extremely tight and a real PITA to work on.

The Z-engineering type centrifugal blowers don't require charge cooling, or lubrication. Just power them and add fuel.....instant HP gains. Go to the 944 board, some people on there are doing these types already. My guess is it will cost you 1/2 of what a turbocharger setup will cost and the performance will be just about the same.

I think I would look at supercharging, the type I would investigate is Autorotor. I think in the States they are distributed by Whipple Industries. This link should provide some more info.

Their effiency is around 85% which compares to 50% for Roots style and 60% for the Eaton. Turbocharging has its drawbacks too, points to think about, exhaust gas heldback to drive the turbine, which compromises exhaust gas flow, the heat generated in the engine bay and its effect on engine componants, the lag that you can't get rid of because its just fundamental to the way the turbo system works. I'm currently researching a supercharging option using this system. A point to ponder is that the autorotor is a compressor and not a blower. I think that the other poster had good advice, there is no way somebody could do a good job for ten grand. I couldn't do it for that even if you didn't count the labour. <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />
