Hi Norm,
Not sure of the exact Ebay Item that was sold (or who bid on it), but we sell New Upper Hatch locks w/Key for $109.52 for Non-Factory Alarmed 928s. Granted the New Upper Hatch Locks w/key for Factory Alarmed 928s are much higher at $295.57, but most upper Hatch Lock assemblies can be repaired for $10-50 depending on what is wrong with it. If it is the lower Hatch Assemblies those are much cheaper at $74.82 for Non-Electric Release and $81.35 for Electric Release
Concerning someone in the business bidding on items on Ebay it depends on why it is being done and what is done with it afterwards. If someone is bidding to get parts dirt cheap to sell later at retail or relist at a higher price it is not fair IMHO.
I personally or professionaly could never sell 928 parts on Ebay. We strive to sell 928 parts at the lowest markup possible. If I were to list parts on Ebay and they were bidded up over what we normally sold them for I could not look in the mirror in the mornings.
On the other hand a year or so ago I saw a new Halfshaft for an S4 listed on Ebay with no bids. I ended up getting it for ( using round numbers here ) $100. I planned to save it for one of my 928s. After a few months someone called in dire need of one for their S4, instead of selling them a new one (or this new one) for the normal price of $435 I sold him "mine" for $150 to help out. To me this is how it is supposed to work.
On even another hand I bought my 90GT, my Bosch Hammer, 4 or so motorcylces and many other things off of Ebay. Anyone has the right to bid for items on Ebay. In my personal opinion it all depends on what you do with what you bid on that defines you.
FYI, If there is ever a creme-puff 95 GTS 5-speed on Ebay (when I have the extra cash) I will show you just how fast my "Ebay Fingers" are ..... in the last 5 seconds :-)

Back again, this time from Miami where I am learning to tame "whales"-
As to the individual in question...I did indeed outbid him. I was "beaten" to the part by a few seconds- I set my watch, and bid with about 20 seconds left and still didn't get it! To the victor go the spoils....
DR- I put my key in the hatch lock one day, and while turning it I felt a quick pop and then the key turned freely- all the way around. When I took it apart, I discovered that the little pot metal tab that sticks out the side of the lock cylinder had broken off. The lock worked perfectly prior, and was well greased so I guess it was just age. The car is an '85 S2 with an alarm. Do you folks have either a lock cylinder or the part that broke? The rest of the assembly is fine, and I can re-key it myself.
Unfortunately, I am sure that the individual in question [nobody from your shop, by the way] was bidding on the part in order to resell it. The reason that I don't feel this is fair is that it raises the prices of parts without regard to supply and demand. I believe in supporting the big three, but I cannot believe that it would be harmfull to business for the occasional "tasty morsel" to go for a low price on Ebay.
The situation that you've described, where you bought a part for yourself but later sold it sounds fair. You and everyone else have a perfect right to bid on things on Ebay- I'm not saying you don't, but in the case I experienced, I have to say that having a right and what is right are two different things.
I'm not mad about anything-I'm going to continue patronizing this guy's shop, as he's helped me out in the past and probably will again.
Thanx-
Normy!

This is a common problem, Tony at Locksmith Services (I don't have his number here at home, will post it tommorow AM ) can fix that one for you easily. The only reason he would not be able to is if he is out of that little part, but normally he can come up with it.

Normy,
Is this all about a new upper hatch with alarm on Ebay?
If so, then I was the person that won it. Also, I installed what I needed on my 928S. I just needed the black metal portion. That leaves me with a cylinder lock with alarm I don't need. If you need it make an offer.

Donald, While I really appreciate that generous offer, I will have to turn it down in favor of Normy. I hope you will understand.
