Default Cassirot 87 5-speed 44k mi. FS

Hey, to whomever it was that expressed interest in the S4 that I posted pics of that I was close to buying in Illinois here is a link to the ad:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...0&cardist=1012

I was close to buying plane tickets to go check it out on two occasions, once before my green S4 was totaled and again right before I bought the white S4 in Miami. I've probably talked on the phone to the owner Steve Putrich for about 3 hours total and I will go out on a limb and vouch for him. He was totally forthcoming about all the issues he's had with the car since he bought it in 1998. The dash an seats are very nice and it seems to be mechanically up to standards with the exception of the a/c. If anyone wants me to email then some pics that I asked him to take for me just send me a pm as I still have all of them on my computer. I have no affiliation, I would just like to help him out because he's a very nice guy and I think it will be a great car for someone.

I know he will sell it for $14 even, but I think he will take even less if you negotiate properly. The fact that it needs a bit of paint work and a rebuilt a/c compressor should be handy bargaining tools. Heck buy it for a good price and supercharge it and if a dude in a red sportscar gives you a dubious look at the stoplight you can show him who the real man really is.

Overall it is pretty nice. There is only one cosmetic oddity that makes me scratch my head. That is the carpeted (!!!???) rear quarter panels. You'll have to ask him if the original q.p.'s are underneath and in good shape. It is bizarre because the rest of the interior is really in excellent condition. It will need some attention though. Here are some pics and emails he sent me answering my questions:

Hi Ryan,
Timing belt maintenance was performed in December of 2003. The steering
rack has not been inspected but it seems to drive fine. Clutch and gears
are in very good condition. With the exception of below, the car is in
excellent conditon:
AC not functioning
Blower (fan) operational but erratic
Driver doorstop broken
Small crack between defrost vents on dash
crack on pod which was repaired (8 out of 10 repair job)
Stitching on steering wheel is a little loose on bottom of wheel bot not peeling away
the usual small paint chips on the front from road debris
Car appears to have been repainted to factory color.

The odomometer quit working Spring of this year (sorry I can be more accurate than that). It was repaired this summer. So, while the mileage is not accurate, it wouldn't be off more than 50 miles because I drive it so seldom. The car is amazingly tight. There are no leaks. I have driven it so little because I have always had other cars to drive. This is a probably the main reason why I am selling it - I cannot justify keeping it any longer taking up garage space. More pics attached.

He has had the car for ten years now.

Ugh on the carpeted rear Q-panels. For a low-miler, it must have suffered some prolonged sun and heat exposure. That's one thing I'm careful about on my 89. I use sunshades on ALL the glass. At 188K miles there's not a hint of warping or cracking.

The 1/4 panels are HIDEOUS....wow thats ugly..... So bad 1/4 panels were redone, the dash and pod are cracked....that seems odd for a 44K car.....but the sport seats look great?

I would pass if I was on the market just because of the carpeted rear panels. What was he or the PO owner thinking when he did that? What other cheap fixes has he done? Man, he could be like my brother in law back home, one day he decided to "chrome paint" the engine bay on his car, rubber hoses and all because he thought it would look cool. oefff

Candleman - be happy with the white 5-speed. I think you scored on that one. Hopefully it'll stop whistling at you soon.
