I am changing the transmission oil in the 78 5 speed. Drained oil and it appears to be 80/90 W.
The owners manual says to use ATF, but the shop mauals tells you to use 80/90 W.
I drained the oil from the back of the differential, is this just differential lube or is it also for the transmission ? Car goes to shop on Monday to get alignment done after front suspension rebuild, so I need to put something back in before then. TIA

Hi Lonnie,
The correct oil is specced as a "GL5" 75w-90 gear oil. Look for this information on the container. If no leaks are obvious, a synthetic oil meeting these specs is usually a good choice. A synthetic oil will improve the cold shift performance and low gear selection. I would never advise putting any additives into the oil as was suggested previously in posts on here - with very poor results!
Regards
