Those pistons are really bad. Whats that from leaking rings or valve seals or both?

Thats allot of varnish on the skirts and walls of the pistons.

Jim Bailey pulled the block from an '87 or '88 S4 and said that he recommended new rings; so I'm guessing (I wasn't present) that the varnish was a result of the rings as this was his only comment regarding it. Pretty nasty huh?

In terms of preventing TBF again, either have Greg install an early TT shaft with shims or one of Constantine's front TT clamps.

Yeh, I've been in contact with Constantine and awaiting one from a new batch he is having made. I appreciate the concern, nonetheless.
