Post Euro 928

if an early 928 is claimed to be a euro model and has a german dash, does that make it a euro? what are the other indicators that identify a euro model?

The Euro 928s all have ZZZ in their VINs. You should also see a rear fog light below the driver's side rear lights. Check your state's registration requirements to be certain you can register it. There may be emission issues as well, depending on how the car does when tested.

Blackfoot, the thing that will identify a Euro is the Vin number. It will have 3 Z's in it. something like WP0ZZZ###########. Now I'm not sure on the location of this # maybe someone will correct or verify this information. But on the lip where the fender meets the hood on the pass side there is a cut out where the # should appear. Anyone can change the rear bumper, dash, or front fenders to make it appear as a Euro. But the number will verify the idenitity. I need to start a Euro web site. I wish my car was a Euro

There's also a VIN plate easily visible thru the windshield on the drivers side pillar.

And - don't forget the side markers...just rear of the front wheel wells.

Blackfoot - when you say - early - what year is this car?

Starting with MY 1981 the comments above are correct ZZZ means Euro HOWEVER it may not be an S . Both 4.5 (240 hp)and 4.7 S (300 hp) cars were produced 1980-82 .

Blackfoot - Jim brings up a good point. If you want to verify it has the 300HP 'S' motor look for the M28.11 (5 sp.) or M28.12 (automatic) engine code stamped on the engine block. The engine code is stamped on the passenger side of the block just above the waterpump. M28.09 and M28.10 are the codes for the Euro 4.5 liter block (240HP).

thanks VERY much for the last two responses...the car is definitely an euro, but as it's on ebay, cannot confirm 4.5 or 4.7. if i got him to look, would the seller be able to EASILY see the m-code on the block?

edit: just a thought...would a carfax reveal 4.5 or 4.7 engine?

The code is located just underneath the vicinity of where the upper radiator hose enters the front of the block. There is a small flat horizontal surface with the code and serial number of the block stamped into it. Unless it is covered in sludge it should be visible without having to move anything out of the way. Good Luck!

You might also (or instead) ask him to see whether the square white sticker is present under the rear floor mat on the right side. It also has the engine and transmission codes as well as the option codes. Then you can go to <a href="http://www.928gt.com/" target="_blank">http://www.928gt.com/</a> and scroll down the left window and hit "Tips/Links" and see what the codes mean. ie. what kind of goodies came with the car.

Blackfoot - I'd be VERRRY careful - and make SURE to get a PPI on this car!

"Owned it for years and drive it very seldom" Yet has 200K+ miles....It does appear to be an "S" (Spoilers - I think I am right - if not - I am SURE I will be corrected!)

Strange - It has had the rear side markers added...but not the front. hmmmm

GET A PPI!!! ASK TO SEE MAINTENANCE RECORDS (This shark should be on it's 3rd TB)

The Euros I have seen in teh US usually had a different type of sticker in the drivers side door jamb - usually the sticker indicated the name of the importer.

I am not sure, if this is true for all Euro S models, but at least some have an unusual twin distributor, which the regular 928 or the US models don't have.

Mark, Nicole

The '84-86 Euro (S2) models are the only ones with twin distributors, as far as I know.
