Is it a bird...?
My shark had been performing badly in the last week or so. Yesterday I had time to check it out. Popped the hood and guess what?? There is a dead bird lodged in the opening of the left hand air intake!! It was almost completely blocking the airflow.
How the $%^& did it get in there??
I pulled the air filter and there were just feathers everywhere!
I don't see how this could have happened. Does anyone have a similar story?
By the way, have you guys looked at a map of the Middle East lately? I'm on the east coast of Saudi Arabia in the Dammam area. Not a lot of road between here and Baghdad. I hope those smart bombs are as smart as everyone says. If someone blows up my shark I'll be REAL pissed!!

Reinhard-
Stay safe! I flew to Kuwait about two months ago...the Saudi ATC controllers took us all over hell and gone, pretty much to the Persian Gulf before they let us turn north and get back on our flight plan~
[That desert looks pretty dark at night.....]
Anyway, that reminds me of one rainy summer morning when I was in college. I drove my car to work [I was a landscaper back then~], all the way hearing a funny whining noise from under the engine. I'm like "What the hell now? Please don't quit on the friggin expressway during a rain shower!". That morning I had to drive nearly to Detroit for work- about 35 miles...
Well, when I got there, I stepped out of my '77 VW Golf and popped the hood, pissed as hell at my Bali Green bunny-
The most pathetic sight you ever saw: A kitten was sitting on top of the battery, wet, sad, tiny...I think its little ears were drooping too-
Well, I took it up to my boss' house and gave it to his wife- it bacame one of the many family pets eventually.
-I bet it stayed away from under car hoods after that!

Hope you are safe, Reinhardt! I admire your courage to even STAY in that area! But the 928 would not be at the top of my list of worries. Again, I hope you are safe!
Normy: That story starts scaring me a little - I have a neighbor's cat who keeps sneaking into my garage and hiding out. I hope I'll never find her under the hood... I usually LOVE cats (even though I'm highly allergic against them), but this one starts to become annoying!
Back in Germany, we had the martens crawl into the engine compartments of cars that were parked in cold nights. They were very aggressive and bit pretty much everything in their way. They must have had a specific preference for the CV boots, as I needed lots of them over time. And they kept coming back - I suspect they marked their territory in there and found it again the next time. When I bought the RX-7 i had a high frequency beeper installed that drove everybody crazy, but I never had any damage again..

Hmm...that has me thinking too. Nicole, your '91 has electrically driven fans that most likely don't come on right when you start the engine, and the spaces up there are pretty small anyway, so it is likely that if an animal were to crawl into the engine bay, that it would be able to flee when the motor turned over.
However, my '85 has a belt-driven fan [the shroud is large, and there is probably room for a small cat to crawl up against the radiator...], and there are several feral cats in the neighborhood. I am in the habit of leaving the garage door open during the day- I guess this is a good reason not to.

Norm: Just put a copy of that photo shoot you did on the hood of your car in the garage to ward off intruders! OTH, maybe it will excite them and send them off seeking prey, yeah, there you go. I'll go with the positive spin on that one.

Reinhardt,
Yep had the displeasure of sucking birds up the intake before, on two seperate occasions. They hit the spoiler and bounced up in front of the radiator and swoosh, right into the intake. Guess I'll have to mount dual shotguns to take 'em out at a distance before they have a chance at the car.

To discourage birds in my engine compartment, I have a tiger in my tank.

Anyone who knows what I am talking about will give away there age very quickly...

"Take it all off. Take it ALL off." Somehow that doesn't look the same as it sounds??! And I'm afraid that may be older than "Tiger in your tank"

Normy and Nicole. Thanks. I'm sure everything will be just fine over here. Right? RIGHT?? ok, ok I'm just kidding.
Funny you should mention a cat. I found one sleeping on the hood of the shark about a week ago. I wonder if there's a link...
Dual shotguns... now there's an idea!

Reinhardt,
Of course, Der ist das Cherman question...
We will have no more of this National Identity and ethics crap. Let alone an opinion!
OUR WAY is the only way don't you know?
So with a name like Reinhardt and driving a Porsche, well who's to say what a target of opprotunity is?
Last time in the sandbox...
We had a F-15 Strike Eagle fly over 20 miles out of his 'box' to trash our Loran transmitter beacon with a HARM, a week later when the fog rolled in (who'd a thought?) we lost a NightStalker MH-60, 4 man crew, 2 Delta Guy's, and 2 AirForce ParaRescue Medics. It turns into a Medal Run after awhile.
BTW the Eagle driver got a Medal for taking out our locater beacon even after being repeatedly warned off by the AWAC's Guy's.
How about Ready Kilowatt (GE), Bucky Beaver (IpanaToothpaste), or Ichabod Mudd -"with 2 D's",
Jet Jackson, (Ovaltine).
And Normy, In the name of good taste destroy all Photo's of that tragic incident...

I'm convinced I was woken up at around 2a.m this morning by the sound of warplanes passing overhead. I tried to connect what I was hearing to anything familiar but I just couldn't.
The problem is that angry mobs don't exactly stop to check your identity or nationality before they swear at you or launch rocks. Ask me, I know...
