WTB used shocks for track use (Bilsteins anyone?)

Another thought is Mark Anderson runs the triple adjustable Motons...which were the best ones made when he built the car...4 ways weren't out then...... He never seems to have a suspension problem

the difficulty for a manufacturer with a custom setup for the 928 is the rear shock lower mount, which is offset. this makes it that little bit more complex to engineer and so the cost goes up.

The lower rear mount would be a spherical bearing, so there wouldn't be any additional cost. At least Koni didn't think so when they quoted $2000 for a 928 with spherical lowers and pin uppers. That is their basic coilover 3012 cost.

Is there anyone else besides John Veninger and I that are running silver Bilstein HD's? I'm not aware of that many track 928's and even fewer that are running Bilsteins. It may be kind of a limited market you're looking at.
For $2k the 3012 sound like a pretty good deal. Can they really get them to fit with the massive 928 lower suspension bolt? If it's $2k w/ custom eyes, then I'd go for that. No need to upgrade later to adjustables.

Most won't run them since they need custom front top mounts and custom top and bottom rear mounts. Some race classes won't allow the mount change.
They are a simple, non-adjustable, "cheap" shock once mounts a fabricated. Work well, but do have their limits.

Dennis, The 3012s are very tempting for $2000, but that does not include springs or upper mounts. I was thinking about getting them made with eyes on both ends and mounting them inverted. That would simplify the upper mounts to just a couple pieces of welded plate. Even then, the $2000 for shocks will probably become $2500-3000.
Koni's standard spherical ends are 1/2" ID and the lower mount bolt is 14mm. Even if they do not include correctly sized spherical bearings, it shouldn't be any problem replacing them since their OD is a standard size (1" or 30mm IIRC)
John, What do you mean about custom upper and lower mounts for the Bilsteins? They should work with the stock mounts. I think I would just need 2.5" spring seats/perches added.
The car will end up in NASA GTS, so they don't care about the mounts changing.

I bought My Bilstein Silver tube HD shocks for $750 new shipped about a year ago.
I am not aware of any other Bilstein Shock for the 928, i thought it was only this set which Carl and 928 INTL sell.
I had seen them before with gold colored cases but mine are silver.

My car has custom valved Bilstein shocks w/ coil over kit with spherical ends on each side which require custom mounting. No rubber mounting
Maybe Dennis thought I was running something different?

Yup those are mine, but in a silver case not the gold. Its odd cause ive seen some other owners with Bilsteins and some of them are gold and some are silver. Being that I got all mine in silver, i just assumed they switched the case's at some point.
Are these the Bilsteins that you said some other people would alter for track use?
Regardless, there is allot of interesting info on shocks in this thread. Sorry you havent found what your looking for yet, but i never knew so many options existed.

Ive heard about the Bilstein rebuild program for awhile, and considering you can get them rebuilt by the manufacturer very reasonably this should really reduce the number available for resale. If i had them on my car and they were suspect i would have them rebuilt as opposed to just selling them off.
You said you wanted to spend $800 for Bilsteins, I think you can find new ones for near that price if not below, no need to mess with used ones. Although i can imagine you would like to have them rebuilt to your specs anyway so paying less for used ones makes sense.
Happy hunting

There are a lot of people who wouldn't bother with rebuilds, don't know about rebuilds, or may have 'upgraded' to something else. Also, there are a lot of people parting out 928s.
Sorry for the confusion on the pricing. I would not buy used ones for $800. That is the price for new ones. 928Intl sells used for $100 each bare. From a regular person, I would expect to pay $100-300 for a complete set.
All the prices in that list are for new shocks.
