The newer Timing Impulse Sender?
When I pulled the bell housing off and unscrewed the timing sender, it crumbled to little pieces. I was looking up the part and it has been changed to this part (944.606.115.00).
My problem is the new sender has a different connector on the end of it. The old one did not have a connector, it just laid on the side of one of the cylinder banks. Since the old one was not connected to anything, where does the new one connect to? I don't want to order one if I don't have any place to connect it.

OK there Are 2 sensors on the rear of the engine one is for the crank position sensor and it has a 3 prong plug that connects to the engine harness, the other sensor is usually connected to the left side of the top of the intake manifold, this is a diagnostic sensor used by the dealer to check the timing, so if you car is still running then you can leave the other sensor alone, it doesnt prevent the engine from running. As a side note if the connector is crumbling then its a good bet that you knock sensors and hall sensor are in the same condition, can you say it time for intake RnR

The part I pulled off was mounted in the top of the bell housing. Is that the diagnostic sensor you are talking about? It looks like it is positioned in the bell housing to pick up the two TDC pegs that are in the clutch pressure plate as they go around. If I can just leave it out it would be wonderful.
The hall sensor already fell apart and had to be replaced. I'll look at the knock sensors after I get the drive and tranny put back in.

the rear sensor is the diagnostic sensor this can be removed. The knock sensors are under your manifold in the Valley of the V
