Had my car at 180mph today. There was a little ice.

Glad to see you're observing proper "ice conditions" safety.

Ryan, there is ample proof, see the JAYBUNI thread.

(even if its more then 20 hp, it definately dosent make up another 80hp.) So now it seems that the engine in the Holbert car is a bit of a special lump. This would make some sense, after all this was a pre production prototype so to speak was it not. I am sure an S4 with 370-380 HP can hit 180 no problem, but not a stock S4 with 320.

Anyone follow where i am going here?
Ryan
If I remember correctly (good luck) ....the holbert car bone stock the way MK got it dyno'd at 285whp....or just a shade on the strong side for a 5 speed S4.....with headers...3.5" single exhaust his best dyno was 335whp..but typically makes around 320whp......his stock cams failed a while back..& ended up being about like GT cams...but he currently runs 85-86 cams modified to work in an S4 (how I dunno)....and still makes 320whp with those cams?

Dennis K is building a dedicated track 5.0L motor with some hi tech oil control stuff & the 85-86 cams.....he runs the same exhaust setup as kibort....he should make at least 320whp....probably more with some tuning...

Thanks Brian, the 400hp claim came from the Excellence article.

Kevin, thanks for reminding me, i forgot, i could do 202 with just some snake oil. Who needs 400hp!

If someone tested the 928 S4 doing 180 at Nardo then thats pretty awesome. Again I wasnt aware of that. But cut your **** already, i wasnt pissing on anyone when i made the comment. If anything, it was directed at the writer of the article, but apparently excellence has said the car did 180. So i stand corrected.
Ryan, you're the first person to respond in the thread, and instead of saying something like "they're a bit optimistic" and acknolweding that it's cool they mentioned a 13+ year old 928 in an article about a current 911, you come in with this condescending attitude about how they are "wrong." The point which you continue to miss, is that this was a very positive post, and you could easily have been less negative about how you responded while still questionging that number, which to me sort of took the wind out of the original posters intent, which was "hey cool!" That's what I meant by "crap all over."

And it turns out your were wrong, to a degree anyway. Credit where due for the apology.

The Nardo test track is a big circle like 7-8 miles around banked so as to be neutral at speeds of about 180 MPH and is at sea level. The Holbert car did 180 plus probably sans mirrors and using 7 inch rims on all 4 corners. The wheel slip on the Salt as well as power loss at altitude would have limited the speed to the 170 and change "world record" .....

Atomic wedgies are better.

I took the original statement as being optimistic. I had to laugh on my way home today...A police car was parked in the bushes just off the freeway with his radar gun pointed straight out at the incoming traffic. What was funny is here's this police cruiser parked perpendicular to the freeway behind a 3 foot bush. The front end of his car was sticking at least 5 feet past the bush. He looked ridiculous trying to "hide" there. I don't know where you can try 170 -180 around here...

I have the Holbert video. What I don't understand is if they were trying to set a new production car speed record, why do it at that altitude?

To be a record you need the proper observers , the timing equipment and wind testing all to be official. It requires a two way run within an hour or so. Bonneville has everything you need during Speedweek plus I believe the record was a Bonneville record !

If it was a Bonneville record, then it makes sense.
