This helps explain why the AJ's folks try to sell you (as a separate item) the "Porsche cloisonne crest" for the horn pad!

Which prompts another question that perhaps Mr. Roberts can answer....

I recently saw a 2002 996 at a P-dealership that had this "Sports Steering Wheel" option, but also had the cloisonne crest on the horn pad.

Is this also available on a 928-specific part # wheel and, if so, does the wheel carry a different part # or suffix code ???
Or must the cloisonne crest be ordered separately and owner-installed ?

Hi Brad,

The only 3 number car I know anything about is a 928 !! :-) I know nuthing about those 996 critters. SO I can't say for sure if the wheel you saw had the colored crest from the factory or not. In the listings I have seen there is only one part number for a 928 and I only remember one part number for 911s.

The colored crest you speak of is a separate Porsche part. Believe it or not it is the hood badge for an old 356. The Porsche part number is 644.559.210.00 and sells for around $34.

The crest has post/pin on the back for mounting, some perople say to put a hole in your horn pad to mount it but I personally have a problem with putting a hole in a $400 leather steering wheel. I prefer the process of breaking off the pin and using a mild silicone adhesive to glue it in place. That way it can be removed later if desired.

Here is my take on the subject. When I bought the shark, the PO had the original T-handle "duck-taped" to the post. So I didn't have much choice.

The steering wheel and the Jager handle are my first customizations.

The handle was easy to install and works great. One thing important to add is the excellent service that Paul Jager provides. He really goes out of his way to accomodate.

I just thought I'd chime in with one other Jager shifter cheer, so to speak. I find myself actually using the ability to drop it down into the lower gear more often than I did with the T handle. I can't say it completely fulfils my desire for a 5-speed, but it's the best compromise I can think of, not to mention fun to use. Though I do have to say this: the shifter will not *completely* stand up to being hit with the end of an entire exhaust system from cat-back being shoved through from the hatch--So, watch it with those pipes!

(P.S. if you've had this problem, a dab of gasket seal will treat you right.)
