The light at the end of the tunnel...
...isn't a train anymore!!
After about 20 hours of trying over the past year to get the short drive shaft out, it finally broke free and had enough room to squeeze out with the pilot bearing fused to the end. So now the clutch, torque tube and broken bell housing are all out and I can finally see an end to the madness and have her back on the road by next weekend.
I can't wait since I have the stainless crossover set from last Christmas, new ball joints and Lloyd 928S4 mats. She'll be better than ever.

Congrats! I bet this is a great reward!
I felt good because I finally found my oil leak and the oil pump is out of it now... but that's nothing compared to the rough road you've been down!

Congrats!
What was the trick? I've got a non-broken (thus far) pilot bearing that I've not been able to remove despite having the right puller, I can only imagine how you got one out without being able to remove the intermediate shaft....

Good to hear from you, John. I'm glad to hear you're making progress and will have her back on the road soon. If you need an excuse to go for a drive when you're done, come see us. We're not as close now but the extra miles will help blow the cobwebs out.

I had to detach the TT from the tranny and move the tranny back a few inches. Then I got all of the bolts off the bell housing so it could move back about 1/2". The problem was the bell housing was "frozen" to the block too. I think it finally broke free from all of the PB Blaster sprayed up there a few months ago because the bell housing just popped off this time and gave me the room I needed.
