Dennis's feeling that excellence or panorama would be better at evaluations, good god no. That would be like asking a real estate person if they thought we were in a bear real estate market.
It just a shame that the ebay auction ends on a time. I wish the auctions would increase by 10 min per new winning bid. Then it would be a real auction. Right now it is who bids the most in the last 5 seconds

Yes and thus the bigger the market sample and the higher the liquidity the greater the efficiency. eBay is a global market place.

It was on eBay a couple of years back. Black 87 or 88 S4 with an all leather tan interior. About 25K miles on the clock. Very clean presentation with lots of pictures. A LA dealer had it and was asking in the low $20 range. Did not sell on eBay. I had a friend who was looking at it, but afraid to buy it and drive it becasue it was too nice. I know the dealer was willing to discount and I did not follow up since my friend was not interested. Since I never saw it again on eBay I assume the dealer sold it.

Very nice car, but what is a low mileage S4 worth in perfect condition. I assume it was probably worth the $20k the dealer was asking just for the car with no history. If I remember correctly it was more than just leather on the seats and door panels. The dash was all leather too, which is unusual for an S4.

Of course the RB car should sell for a premium. These days fads are more popular and the 928 is begining to get a following as a collector car. I just do not see the current premium given the amount of work the car needs. It will take $15-20K to put the car right and then it will still not be original. Is the car finished worth $30K ??? But then a Baracuda convertible with the six pack, four on the floor and a Dana rear end just out of the barn and covered with rust was recently bid on eBay at over $700K. Only one a 10 or so made and a completely restored one went for $2.1 mil. For that kind of money you could have Aston Martin build you a custom Vantage.

Myself I would rather track down the red 83 Marriane Gravette got for being Playmate of the year.

Here's a few of the interior pics of Tom Sellecks shark when it was for sale. It really looked sharp in that color combo with the additional tan on the dash & pod instead of tan & black. Whoever got that one got a great looking 928, forget that Selleck once owned it!

I saw the Selleck car back then but wasn't able to buy it. I hadn't heard anymore since, so I was interested when you mentioned it and thought you might know more. It was an '88, not an '87. The interior was the best looking interior I had ever seen and inspired me when I redid mine. The difference is I decided to go with cashmere carpets instead of black when I redid my interior.

What I find interesting, is the auction has almost 6000 views.

I would own this car. I'd tear it apart and put it back together refurbishing/cleaning all of the original components and body. it seems there are only a few items that cannot be saved. A new dash and pod will not devalue it. The seat covers can be taken off and treated and resewed by a capable upholsterer, steering wheel recovered. Carpet can be taken out and dry cleaned. Things reattached, engine easily fixed. Piece O' cake, THEN take it over to BJ and watch the bids hit the high mark.

Wish I had the time and money, this is a good investment if done properly.

I was thinking that the car that I would want would be the one that went into the lake. Even if it was just a shell/salvage or beater. The one that went into the drink is the most famous 928. Refurbishing that one and selling it at BJ would bring a nice price.

Wade,

I agree - the lake car is the collector item! What a story.

It looks like on the Selleck car there is some custom work around the speaker grills.

The winning bidder was volojay. Perhaps having to do with this Volo?
www.volocars.com

If so, it's kind of a homecoming for the car. It's less than 30 miles from where Joel lived in the movie. It could very well end up going in for work to the same Porsche dealership that fixed up the car in the movie, since that is the closest dealership in that area.

That would be cool. I'd like to see the car. Wish I had went to see it when it was in CO.

I'm pretty sure that Volo bought it. From what I have heard is they wont restore the car, but who knows for sure.

At least I can see it in person now..... I'm really surprised it sold for ONLY 12k...
