As long as there is no delay and you no longer need to rev the car to get charging @ ~14v you are probably good.
Many alternators will self-excite at high rpm even if the exciter circuit is disconnected - hence the comments above ...
See how it goes - you should never have the charge light stay on after you start up...

Thanks for the input guys.
I may have not have explained as well as I could have. My rev-up was not to high rpm --- more of a throttle blip. Nothing too drastic.
Well see how things go from here.
