Default HF Engine Stand?

Anyone have any experience with this Harbor Frieght engine stand?

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=47304

I like the idea that is foldable.

Thanks. -Ed

nope, I bought my heavy duty stand from Summitt Racing.......

Same one I have and it works great.
If you are going to remove the crank bolt while you are detailing your motor do it while it's still in the car. I need the SC pulley and removing the bolt was very difficult with the motor on the stand.

Cool.

And thanks for the tip on the crankbolt. I would have never thought of that. I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing to the motor just yet, but I'll be doing my homework soon and will keep that in mind.

Same stand that my 5.0L is on now. Works well.
I suggest a 2x4 support under the front oil pan (length wise floor to oil pan) when not your not working on the engine.

T base stand is too unstable to suit me, but the H base seems fine, so guessing the one up is better still.

They do take up a lot of floor space even when not in use, so if somebody local has one they might be happy to let you borrow it for a LONG time.

granprixweiss,

I've had a 5 liter '88 engine on this stand for 8 years. I too put a brace under the front of the oil pan for added support, but it's worked fine for that long a period. Should be good for you.

I have the el-cheapo version but I feel more comfortable with an extra U-shaped (upside down) stand on the pulley side. I think it's in the WSM somewhere.

Removing the crank bolt was a breeze while the engine was resting on two big wooden blocks, one either side.

Anyone who puts anywhere near 1k lbs on a HF 1k lbs engine stand has a serious death wish. 2x4 brace under the pan or weld a support between the base and the upright.

I had their stand (gave it to a friend). Only used it on an MGB motor and it did fine. Harbor freight is not bad for some stuff. I wouldn't buy a parachute from them but their steel floor jacks and engine hoists have worked well for me.
