"Old and New" By non intersecting , you mean valve to valve? If so is the Valve to piston clearance is that massive, that the valves would never hit the piston no matter where the belt cut loose in the stroke? If that's the case I'll shave .020-.040 off the head and pick up a few ponies there hahaha.

4MIDLIF I have reading the hell out this site and cant believe the huge amount of knowlege that is on here. I'll look again and try to keep the stupid questions to a minimum hahaha.

Non Intersecting aka Non Interference. On the 32 Valve sharks, if the timing belt breaks, the pistons will contact the valves causing MAJOR damage. On the 16 valve sharks, if the timing belt breaks, no piston/valve contact will happen.

There have been numerous threads regarding this topic. SOme say yes, Some say No (on the 16 Valve - piston contact). The best thing to do, is just change it anyway. Why would want to wait until it does break to find out?.

Man this is an awesome picture <a href="http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/boot/66/HTMLobj-2679/Engine_explodedMedium.JPG" target="_blank">http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/boot/66/HTMLobj-2679/Engine_explodedMedium.JPG</a>

As I was hoping, split cases and all. the only thing missing is an internal transmission or it would be back to back suzuki GS 1000 engines minus the water jackets and valve angle hahaha. Thanks a million man, This is going to be way more fun than I was expecting. When I get into the thing I'll dyno it then Post the changes when I do them
List so far:
1)shave heads to bump to 10+:1 port intake, port and polish exaust
2)If the carnk is pressed, Weld it
3)Check rod thickness Upgrade?
4)forged pistons, wrist pins and buttons
5)Bearings

Cant wait!!

Hi Jeff,

Ignorance can be cured. There are no stupid questions. You may get a response that points you to a source of knowledge. That is how many people help out. You can usually find enough Porsche enthusiasts online to get quick answers to most questions.

There is still debate about which engines are interference/intersection types. The clearances are so tight that I would not shave the heads. But someone else may provide technical specs on clearance that rebut my opinion. Page 15-19 of the FSM specifies .2mm max machining for 16 valve heads. Requires that you machine combustion and camshaft side mating surfaces. Requires that both heads are machined. If someone else already machined the heads, the .2mm is no longer valid. See FSM for max machine dimensions.

Thanks again Thom.... I would of course check all clearances before I decide a number to go., Deck height can be changed, heads shaved. First I have to figure out what size cams I want to run then I can machine the heads and deck height of the pistons and cylinders to provide the minimal clearance (valve to piston). I may be able to reduce the minum clearance but using a heavier valve spring to take up the lash, Going to need then for the cams anyway hahaha. This going to eb a cool research project. Who all races these things on the site?? I really would appreciate some experienced help building a hopped up 4.7 I mean nothing like experience to learn from. I'm gettin excited hahaha.
Thanks Thom,
Jeff

Hey Jeff,

I remembered you saying you needed the front spoiler and I saw this one on E-Bay and I doubt if it will last long. They have a buy it now price of $225, which is the lowest I have seen a new one, I know some have bought the one from Vertex(spelling?) that usually sell them on E-Bay for about $250 on a regular basis.
