Question Flat Six Experience

While doing some parts shopping on line I checked FlatSixOnline.com. The parts I was interested in (hood and hatch shocks advertised as genuine Porsche)were substantially cheaper than either Devek or 928 Int'l. Anyone have an opinion as to this company's reliability? Somewhat concerned that they are apparently located in Singapore! I have sent them a note inquiring about their S&H costs.

PatP,
Let us know. Though I must admit I'm torn between supporting our known suppliers and someone new/cheaper...but then I guess it depends on the amount of savings.

Yeah, I also want to support Devek, 928, etc. However ... . For example, Devek has the Porsche hood strut (928.511.139.03) in their cat. at $23 and the hatch strut (928.512.331.05) at $22.50. 928 Int'l is a little cheaper. FlatSix has the same part #s at $11 and $5.60 respectively. Again, I have no experience with them and perhaps they will respond to my email with something like "Our S&H for these products is only $20. Delivery within 10 weeks." I will keep the Board advised.

Fellow shark chums:

I think I paid somewhere less than $10/ea (from foggy memory) for aftermarket gas cylinders fro DR at 928 Specialists a year or two ago. These are aftermarket pieces but seem to do the job just fine. Perfect fit, just missing the 12-digit part no & price tag. They were on special at the time, worth asking about if you need a set.

If anybody in the LA group needs a set of used but good ones and has little money, the ones I took out worked OK but not great. I put them in because the hood seemed darn sluggish. Turned out that the hinges need a squirt of lube. The new shoks push the hood up fast enough to pop you in the jaw if you happen to be standing too close.

If you notice that the hood aligns better with a little push down, a foot or two forward of the rear edge along the side seam, you are a definite candidate for the dr's lithium-and-teflon aerosol grease injection at the hinges. A real cure for 928 hood hinge arthritis. Lids and doors are butter-smooth now. Downside (if you will...) is that the doors won't stay open on uphill or sidehill parking. Good on the latches too, by the way. Flush with WD-40, lube with the lithium-teflon spray.

Cheers!

Thumbs up

Thanks for the tip(s) Bob. 928 Specialists has both shocks (after market only) listed at $9.99. Looking into S&H.

Hey Dr. B.
What's the name of this lithium/teflon combo spray? Been looking for something like that.

Don't order from FlatSix!! They are a total scam!

I have a Euro 944 and needed some Euro-specific stuff, and they had the parts at great prices. So they claimed. I paid them via check to the tune of about $400, but my parts never showed up. This was several months ago. They won't respond to my emails either, now that they've got my dough.

I'm convinced the only reason they advertise parts so cheaply is so they can rip you off. They'll never deliver them, so why not advertise them cheaper than anyone else? So be warned - FlatSixOnline is a total scam and since they're located in Singapore China, you basically have no recourse to get your money back.

It seems to me that any company that will not accept credit cards for payment is suspect, and should be avoided.

Thumbs down

Brian (and everyone else.) Ironically, I decided today NOT to deal with FlatSixOnline specifically because they never bothered to respond to my S&H inquiry. Sorry you got stuck, Brian. Looks like 928 Specialists gets the order. Thanks to you all. Let's hope the word gets out on FSO. I'll do my part.
