Exceptional cars command exceptional prices. As many/most know from their own experiences, average cars need at least $5-6k just in parts and pieces cost to bring all the maintenance and rubber parts up to current baseline standard. If you have a car that has all that done already, it should be worth that extra cost to a buyer. Find a car that's been babied, and is free of the normal dings and scratches that plague too many "average" cars. Some can be fixed with PDR, some can be buffed out, many require remedial work to make them an exceptional car. The price on the kept-nice car will be understandbly higher. Got an extra-clean interior without the wear that's typical to "average" cars? That's worth money at purchase.

I know that everybody here has a car that's above average, right? Then take a look at your list of things to do on your 'above average' car. Still 'above average'? If a new owner looked at your maintenence, how much are you past half-life on scheduled stuff? All that rolls into the value of car that's being bought or sold.

Don't run down an owner's car that's offered at a price higher than you think your "above average" ride is worth. Ask yourself if you'd sell your own comparable 'above average' ride for what he's asking, minus the costs of that defereed-maintenence list you are tucking back into your wallet.

My maint to-do list is short, just brakes/rotors and new shocks for 2008. Everything works on my car. I wouln't even think of asking $19k for it-- too low! I've toured a lot of cars at events like Sharktoberfest, and still think mine is above that average. I just washed it yesterday too. That's gotta be good for a few bucks!

Afshin,

Good luck on the sale. I have seen your car and it is a very nice example as far as 928's go. IMO you should try to be flexable on the price as mentioned earler.

That said I would consider my '88 worth about 10k, I really cant imagine being able to buy 2 of mine for the price you are asking and I think that others in the market might shy away from a purchase price that high.

Again, I wish you luck and remember to advertise it where ever you can. The more people see it the more likely you are to find someone looking for that special something.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I apologize that my first post was rather vague. I thought I would post at lunch to get some interest and then do a follow up with a thorough post this evening but the snow has squashed that plan.

Many owners on the East Coast have seen my car and honestly I would truly like to get their opinion either on this thread or by PM. If my price is too high then maybe I'm wasting my time trying to sell it. I came up with this price based upon what I think it would cost to replace this car in its current mechanical and physical condition. My goal as already mentioned is to buy a car that I can prepare for concours without sinking a ton of money into it. I don't have the time or mechanical abilities (confidence) to tear apart an interior which is another reason why I would prefer to sell.

I would place my car in excellent condition with the only deferred maintenance item being the interior vacuum diaphragms and a questionable M/C which was causing problems when the system was recently bled/flushed although it's been working really well since. I would consider reducing the price of parts for these items off my asking price so I guess I can negotiate some. A/C blows cool under 4K RPM but gets warm above that which is due to the vacuum leak.

ALL fluids are fresh as of 2 months ago and I have pages of maintenance done in the past three years which address all of the major and minor items. Brake pads will probably need replacement in 10 - 15K miles as will tires. The drivers front wheel leaks air at the valve stem, this can be addressed easily with a new stem which I can take care of.

The car is an early VIN 0110 Piston Squirter with folding wing, 5Spd with LSD. The interior is mostly leather with vinyl on the dash and center console only.

I will add more details this weekend if there's any interest.

Here are a few pics, more to follow this weekend.

Another shot of the interior, more to come. Also note that the car spent most of it's life in Nevada and NorCal and the undercarriage and overall condition reflects this. The negative, it has had minor repair to the right rear quarter panel and a small bubble has formed at the rear window seal. It hasn't changed since I purchased the car. All body panels on the car including front/rear bumpers have the original vin stickers on them so everything is original. The entire car has either been resprayed at some point or reclearcoated, it's hard to say for sure but it was done correctly with no overspray anywhere and all weatherstriping removed.

It does sound like you have the common and easy to fix HVAC vac issues....... Assuming the compressor holds a charge and there is no leaks in the system...then the vac leaks are pretty cheap and easy to correct!!

You have a very nice 928 in a good color combo to boot...... Looking at the pictures you are well on your way to many concours wins......I can't see you replacing this 928 with another that will be in considerably "better" condition unless you spend ALOT more money..since it will probably be a pristine GTS...which are at least double even triple what you are asking for yours!

The pictures of your car present very nice. You need more direct side on shots although I particularlly like this one:

When I sell one of my cars there are probably 60 -70 pictures either directly on the auction site or on another page interested parties can link to. Take a look at this page where all the information about the GTS I sold is, as are the pictures.

http://www.928registry.org/1995-928G...2-For-sale.htm

If you need a page to post these pics send them to me and I will build a page for you to use in your sale. chuck -at- 928registry.org Don't let the guys telling you the price is too high get to you. If you believe the car is worth your number just ignore them and talk to the ones who are really interested.

Chuck,

I truly appreciate the advice and your offer, I may take you up on it. I will try to take more pictures of the car this weekend to make a collage.

Here's a side shot of the car.....and our lazy Bassett who is also fond of the 928.

It's worn and IMHO should be either professionally repaired or replaced. Funny thing is that the rest of the seat is in great shape, it's just the upper outer bolster that's beat. No evidence of wear on any of the other seats. Some slight warpage to the rear quarter panel covers probably due to leather shrinkage. The pod has a hairline crack in the middle which hasn't changed in the last 6 months, no other cracks, shrinkage or wear is evident on the pod or dash.

Afshin and I did the MM and pan gasket in September along with tie-rods, rack boots, and all fluids. We also baselined all the one and two-year scheduled maintenance. His car spent some time in my garage. It is CLEAN.

Excruciatingly clean. Seriously. The interior was so spotless I didn't want to get in it.

It needs a clutch slave cylinder, 4-way vacuum "T" and a new vacuum check valve. We would have attended to those items, but Afshin was too interested in doing a last drive and I was heading out on vacation.

The NADA sounds about right. It is a very clean car though now that I've seen the pics. Jason

I have seen the car, and driven it. It has been a pampered car. Very nice.
I don't think $19k is a lot of money after chasing all the small things on my S4.

I think my 106k "above average" S4 is worth 12k all day long...This car is worth the $$$. The color is nice, and it has all the right options.

Sit tight, that thing will sell.

Gentleman thank you for the responses, much appreciated.

I agree with other comments about the non negotiation on the price. If you have a time frame that you must work in, you must be prepared to either keep the car or dicker on price..... this is just my opinion.

The car has 49K on it. The bubble and seat are on my list and if I keep it I will be addressing them. I'm a proponent of taking care of the mechanicals before I spend any money on major cosmetics. If I keep the car I would replace all the leather so it perfectly matches.

Realistically I would be open to some negotiation if the right buyer came along. It would be nice to find someone who will continue to care for the car and put some miles on it. I would call it the perfect weekend driver and shown and shine car, but not a concours car.

Regarding the car being in GT territory I wouldn't agree. Realistically a low mileage excellent condition GT with some mechanicals addressed is commanding a minimum of $25K. That is what I anticipate spending to make the jump. Add to that any outstanding mechanicals and minor cosmetics and you're in the high 20's.

I'll try to post more info this weekend.
