Default Alternator upgrade for early 16v ??

The original Paris-Rhone alternator in my '80 16v has fought its last battle, so I've been looking at the available 90 amp replacements: there appear to be two ...
1) Bosch AL 115X - which is also a cross fit for Audi 5000's, etc. This could work with a pulley/fan change, but I cannot find a link for a rear shroud.

2) 'Bosch' AL 325X - This appears to be either a Bosch clone of the 2nd generation SEV Marchal ( or Paris Rhone) alternators fitted to the '82-'83 cars .... or a Bosch remanufactured edition of the French orriginal .

I have the plastic end cover & pod resistor in the mail from our friends at 928 I'ntl ( 928 603 133 04), which I believe is correct for the AL 325X version - but not certain.

My preference would be to have the correct air hose/shroud hook up - so that points to the AL 325X as the alternator of choice - but what do I get under that designation? A Bosch .... or a rehashed SEV/PR via Bosch rebuilders. This unit will likely accept the fan and pulley from my PR unit so that the alignment for the V-belt is correct: sellers of the AL 115X clain that there is an issue to address re V-belt offset.

Advice appreciated from any who have done or are aware of this conversion/update. I have attached a pic of the remanuf. AL 325X offered by many suppliers, but get conflicting replies as to what it is - despite being labled 'Bosch'.

Garth-
My local autoparts store sold me a Bosch replacement which did not require any modifications. I do not remember if I had to swap the stock Paris-Rhone pulley, or if one was in place. Lifetime warranty, and did not require the use of a shroud at all. There was even a note that use in a 928 did not require a shroud.
I will try to remember to pull the cover off the car and see what model it is. Should have the receipt somewhere as well...

According to the "recommendation details" they both will fit with the later shroud and in your case the resistor for the pod upgrade.
I sell plenty of the renmanufactured AL325X units with no comebacks.
They are $157.95 each plus core charge of $60.
For those who may need them (78 to 84) the shroud is 928 603 133 04 = $30.95 and the resistor (78 to 82) is
928 641 981 00 = $9.95. You will aslo want a new gasket that goes between the shroud and the alternator 928 603 135 02 = $7.95

Roger, is the resistor required for pre-S (<'83) cars? I thought it is already in the pod for my '80??

There is a resistor there already but it needs upgrading IIRC.
The resistor is required for the 78 to 82 cars - I updated my post to make that clearer.

I have available a marginal ( worn out slip rings) AL 115X Bosch - sort of a 4th choice option , and it has 3 rear bolt holes for whatever shroud ( like the PR alternator) ... quite unlike the 4 studs illustrated on the AL 325X version - leading me to suspect that the shroud fit is fairly specific .

So, are the AL 325X units Bosch? .... or SEV type remanuf. by Bosch? In part, my curiosity is to determine what qualifies as an acceptable 'core' : as an upgrade project, there is no AL 325X type to return .... just an old Paris - Rhone, likely to become a boat anchor. That fate may be the better solution.

I just changed mine and this was the one I got. Excellent deal. Not sure which type it is but it was french made for sure. How do you tell the difference between the two? I do know that the back of my new alternator didn't look like the one in the pic above. Jason
