Post Flappy Solenoid Question

I've got a bad flappy solenoid so I've removed it pending replacement.
What's the little **** for that rotates on the side of the solenoid?

That's just a cover for the vent port. Solenoid works by applying engine vacuum to the flappy actuator when it is energised. Deenergise and you disconnect the vacuum source from the actuator OK, and you also vent the actuator to atmosphere so it can return to its relaxed position.

I think there's a rock filter in there too, but I've never looked inside one to be sure.
