Default Wire - gonzo

84' 928S 5 spd. Do'in my semi annual "check this and clean that" before winter put away and noticed that the MAF heated wire isn't there - gone. Car seemed to be running normally prior to finding this - what symptoms should I have noticed and is replacement brain surgery technique or shady tree mechanic stuff?

If it's a US L-Jet car then you have a flappy airmeter (AFM) , not a MAF ? No hot wire in an AFM.
