Unhappy Transmission Problem???

I drove my 84 last night and everything was great.

This morning I back out of the garage into the street, put the car into gear and nothing happens. I tried every gear and it is expiriencing that "neutral like state" in all of them.

I pushed the car back into the driveway, and tried again later, but I still get nothing in any gears.

The transmission has never given me any prolems in the past.

Any ideas what to do???

FMR SPY, 928UK is right. I just had trouble with my transmission. It turned out that the fluid was leaking through the lines. The lines were replaced, and the trans was serviced, old fluid flushed, fresh fluid and new filter. It was amazing all the crap that was floating around the inside of that trans. You need to check you fluid regularly.

Like others have said, first check the transmission fluid, it must be between the Omax and 0min in the holding tank
.

The Trans would have to be almost empty for the car not to move. Does the transmission linkage move? The Trans can have a bad oil pump, no oil pressure. You will need a pressure gauge with a reading of at lest 300 PSI. The tap is by the fluid holding tank. Oil pressure in drive at idle 90 to 120 psi, WOT 195 psi, reverse 250 psi.

Did you hear any noise?

First thing I did was check the level and it is good.

I have not been able to get under the car yet to check the cables. I was hoping to have some ideas before I put the car up and started looking.

I will check the cables first thing.

Thanks

While your back there you might wana take a look at the rear diff. and check the fluid. When I did mine the fluid was blacker than me. <img border="0" alt="[hiha]" title="" src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" />

Angry

I have checked the linkage at both ends and it is still attached. I also had someone move the gear shift and could see the rear linkage moving.

The car will go into park and not roll, but will roll freely in all other gears. I can rev the engine in all the gears with nothing happening.

There was no noise when it quit working and never slipped or hard shifted before that.

I need some help the Texas shark event is coming.

Take off the pan and see if the internal linkage is still connected. (LIKE I TOLD YOU LAST WEEK). Alternativly you could test your

1. Modulation pressure
2. Operating Pressure
3. Governer Pressure

with this tool <a href="http://www.mytoolstore.com/kd/kdengi12.html#3343" target="_blank">Pressure Gauge</a> <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

Sorry Bro, I did not know that you could see the linkage, with only the pan off. Unlike, you I have not had to take my tranny apart 20 times.

Plus, it's my second car, I wasn't in a major hurry, to tear it all apart.

I will give it a try next week and see what happens.

Bueller Bueller Bueller...... let me know... if you are waiting till next week, order the gauge and check the pressures before taking off the pan.

Same thing happened to me last year. The tranny held the car in Park but all other gears were like having my Land Cruiser's differentials unlocked; hence it was not the linkage. The initial diagnosis was an oil pump failure; it was broken into pieces. The cause was an upshift that didn't happen taking the car to 6000rpm just seconds before the catastrophic failure. After the oil pump was replaced and the TC rebuilt, I had numerous continuing tranny problems resulting in a rebuild and finally leading to an outright swap as the final cure. Let's hope it's just the oil pump or something simpler; other be prepared to spend time and money!

Good luck.
