Post Window problems

Got in the 79 928 today after sitting for two weeks (on vacation) I soon realized that the drivers side window would not roll down. I can hear the motor hum while activating the window switch but the window does not move at all. I was wondering if this is a motor problem or a mechanical linkage problem. I guess either case is that I will have to remove the door panel to investigate. :-(

Any suggestions would much be appreciated.

I had a similar problem on the passenger side. My battery would be flat and i could hear the passenger side window acting up. In my case it was a switch that had gone bad which I replaced for under $40.00 and about 15 min labor (my own) to remove the carpet on the tunnel and make the connection.

Curtis - You will definately have to remove the door panel to know for sure. I had the same thing happen to me. It turned out to be a broken nylon roller that slides along the bottom window channel making it go up and down. One of the 'Big 3' 928 suppliers has a nylon roller replacement kit that is inexpensive and simple to repair yourself. Good luck!

I agree with Paul. Had the same problem with my '79. Window switch would work , I could hear motor working, but window wouldn't budge. Turned out to be the plastic roller Paul mentioned. The outer edge was starting to slice off, becoming stuck in the channel. New one from 928 Int. solved the problem. Go slow when you remove the window. It helps to have the manual handy, the daigrams help. Good luck.

Unhappy

Now, my problem is somewhat different; '87 S4, driver's side, press the switch, amp gage indicates a drain on juice, but NOTHING happens, window won't move, motor doesn't hum, zip, nothing.
And it was working last year.

It's starting to get warm, SITM and the OCIC events are coming up..... Gotta get ready for travel time!
