I rented cars regularly enough on one project a few years ago that the women at the rental car desk at the airport in Reno would give me free luxo upgrades for the mid- or full-size rate. Plant owner blew a gasket when he saw that my rental Towncar, on his expense, was newer than the one he drove. Now I make sure I get a Taurus or some similar mid-range car, or maybe a mid-size SUV if I need to haul people or stuff. Whatever's on the weekly deal list. Not much excitement in driving those, but it's better than getting all the expenses audited for a project.
If I buy an east-coast 928 it will be for the days off, not the days working. A couple years ago I went to the SC Dyno Day, and passed a used car lot in NC on the way, where an early-80's non-S car was offered. I darn near stopped and asked for a "test drive" so I could at leats roll up to the event in a decent car. Instead, I had to pass on taking a few pulls on the rollers with the rental Escape.

"No worries about baby goin' rice. It will either be Saab, Porsche (and not until after age 21) or nuthin' (ok, maybe an American Muscle car... but that's my limit).[/QUOTE]
I used to say the same thing about my son being 21 before he was driving a Porsche - His 16'th is May 30'th and his B'day present is driving the OB to SITM!
Just raise them with common sense and make him do the work on the car - he'll treat it with more respect! The fact that the speed limiter (Mom) is riding shotgun might make some difference
Sea Ya,

With the 86.5 wheel well filled with rum - once again....

Man oh man am I looking forward to the day when I can bring my kid to car shows. I have many fond memories of riding along as a tot in Chesapeake Challenges and other great regional Porsche events. I'm sure SITM will be among the first for my first. Can't wait!
