Hey, i only know what i have seen.
Im not saying im right here. Im only saying it looks like there is very little damping, if any by the washers. Its like a solid post. dont know the spring rate, but maybe you do since you are usually right all the time.
as far as the oil goes, its heat transfer, as its primary function, for which time usually can fix this. (ie wait until engine is at full temp before beating on it)
now, the thing im most concerned with is the corrosion factor. when my engine comes out, we will see what has happed for 20,000 miles and no oil, and LOTs of racing!

Quite happy to be proved wrong or be edumacated but I think I agree with you on this on Mark.
Studying Tony Harkins diagrammatic of the tensioner to refresh my memory. [URL="http://members.rennlist.com/v1uhoh/timing.htm"]
The tension adjuster bolt acts directly on the piston with the O ring, so the only way the piston moves is by adjusting the bolt.
The bellville washer stack has a fairly high spring rate so I doubt it sees much elastic shortening as the belt tension varies during engine rotation.
The spring between the carrier arm contact (domed insulated washer thing) and the fitting on the top of the belleville washer stack should remain at the same compressed length all the time if the belt tension is correct, the only time it should vary is if the belt gets too loose thus breaking the elctrical contact and setting the TB warning.

fixed link for Jon,

I could care less how the factory tensioner worked, I wasnt a huge fan of it. Hence why I got a few of the porkensioners.
As stated before I have a tensioner if you want it just let me know.

Bernhard, what ever Aarhus Porsche people want to change they are asking way too much for it unless its entire engine block. If noise comes from air pump bracket entire pump can be left off as long as its done right. If its tensioner internals you can get used tensioner for 1/10th of what they are asking for new part.
