Default 88 S4 Manual 40K miles ???

Just looking at this car on eBay. 5 speed, with as the owner states, 40K miles.
Owner says that the TB has never been changed because it has only done 40k miles.
I smell a rat 8>(
Anyone else notice the out of line milometer reading?
The badly worn drivers bolster?
Anyone know this car?

Maybe I'm being paranoid 8>)

Sorry Malcolm - drinking to early again

I'll put my vote in for your paranoia Roger. Zero feedback, but a member for 2 years, a driver's side bolster that looks like my 146,000 mile seat, and the odometer all combine to make me a bit squeamish. I'd have a THOROUGH PPI before signing on that dotted line.

from the pics it shows well except for the seat and speedo that looks as if its ready to jump to 141k miles.

Really needs a good PPI..............Florida isn't that far away Rog.

Check the rubber on the brake pedal pad amd maybe the clutch pedal too. With 40k on it there will be virtually no wear. A $6 part that's often an indicator of how and how much it's been driven. Wear on the clutch disk would be another telltale. A recent speedo gear would be a clincher.

It appears to be a nice looking S4 5 speed, but something looks amiss with the odometer. I wouldn't buy it without seeing it in person or PPI if the bids get up there. However, I'd bid sight unseen at the ridiculous rates it's at now... anything above $12k would take further investigation in my book.

Seems like it's worth a look. Maybe some latex paint and filler (see JPTL's thread and Dr. Bob's post, #50) would fix that bolster right up?

No, its Veniziablau/Venetian Blue Metallic actually. Looks a lot my car except waaaaay nicer condition.

Low mileage claim looks plausible to me, but I'm no expert thats for sure.

I don't know. Seat shouldn't look like that with just 40K. When I bought my first 928S4 in 1999, an 88 with 69K and same Veneziablau color, there was very little wear on the seats or the interior in general. The 89S4 with 227K on the other hand has a seat with that much wear on it.

Ya the seat doesn't look right for a true 40K mile car...BUT I did see a carfax certified 44K mile local S4 that had DESTROYED seats.....all cracked and ruined.....but it was low mileage car...drove very well too

It looks really good except for the seat. But who knows, it could be that it just got ripped from something in he guys back pocket. I have almost ripped me seat many times getting in my 928. I suppose you could run a carfax on it and get and maintenance receipts that he might have. By the looks of the rest of the wear and tear of the interior, it does look like it could be very low mileage.
