I ran a CarFax. Mileage looks about right except CarFax is showing 40647 in October 2005 and then 43,500 even in May of O6. Now the odometer shows 40,941. Interesting how odometers can roll back with use. Maybe the May 06 duplicate title update is wrong - someone just guessed and the car has only been driven 300 miles since 2005.

The snag is Florida recently issued one or two duplicate titles. Either the guy has difficulty finding paper work or ... well I will not say that in an open forum. No need to educate too many people.

The rest of the seat looks good. It is possible to wear the bolster out in a short time if most trips are short and the person is in and out of the car alot.

I would sure like to get my dash and center console to line up as well as this one. Overall the rest of the car looks right.

Sorry Malcolm - drinking to early again
What is too early? Just select a suitable time zone; play a matching CD & everything is OK.

I bought my car with 45K on it and the drivers seat looked pretty beat. The rest of my car mechanically and cosmetically is indicative of a lower mileage car with no corrosion to the cad plated parts and rubber which isn't dried out or worn. No creaks, vibration or rattles either.

Only way to know for sure is to look at it in person and get it on a lift. Undercarriage can be telling as can the engine bay IMHO.

He may just be a portly fellow.
The sport seats in my 146k GT look about the same as the ones pictured.
Nice looking Shark.

I ran a CarFax too, and sent him a message asking him about the CarFax/current mileage and dupe titles, and his exact response was "cant help you!"

Some guys can polish a turd and it looks pretty good. I'm looking for a 5sp myself and I'm not interested in this one (even though it shows pretty good) due to the odometer issue. I've had four 928s and they odometer even when inop doesn't hover between lines like that. That is an issue IMO.

Good luck on your hunt!

The suspension has sagged a lot in 40k miles.

Odometers get out of whack as with everything else on a 928. The CarFax discrepency is easily explained by someone estimating the mileage for the Florida transfer. I have done this myself just to get the paper work going.

What suspension sag. This one looks clean and the price is not so bad. The time between the odometer difference is not much, so it would be hard to rack up too many extra miles and still have the car looking so original. Further the Florida report is a delayed report and could just be wrong.

There are some things to note here. Mind you I am just going by experience of 928s and the pictures, but often the Devil is in the details.

1. The door jamb sticker does not show a repaint. This does not mean the car was not repainted, but it is an indication if it was repainted then the shop did a careful and professional job. All good signs. There is no indication in any of the pictures of a color change.

2. The alignment of the center console with the dash. It is rare indeed to see such a perfect line. This is a place where it is always difficult to put the parts back perfect. Further over time with heat the dash will begin to warp a bit and the alignment will change. This one suggests the center console has never been out of the car. A very good sign of an unmolested car.

3. The engine looks original. This is a credit to any dealer as most dealers pay for an engine detail which often includes spot painting and over spraying with clear lacquer to make the engine shine. At least this dealer had the class not to go that route.

4. The original radiator stickers are there and the intake looks to be factory powder coating without any peeling. Of course it is difficult to tell these things from a picture and a closer inspection is needed, but the originality makes the mileage look correct.

5. There is no shrinking on the seats. The dash looks near perfect. Yes the bolster is worn through, but the rest of interior looks right. Again there is no evidence of heavy carpet shampooing or heavy applications of interior dressing. This is another indication the dealer has some class and understands performance cars.

6. The paint looks good from the pictures. Paint in pictures is the most decieving thing, but with mileage the number of rock chips on the front and the mirrors stand out - especially on dark cars. Now it could have been repainted selectively to get rid of the chips but again if so it looks to be a nice job.

All in all I would judge this car up front to be the geniune article. It is easy to be jealous and run down someone elses car - especially if it looks better than yours. Yes dealers are generally slimey characters - it is the nature of the business - but even slimey dealers can sell nice cars. It is the car one is buying - not the relationship. After all no one is asking you to marry the dealer. The Porsche is a piece of metal like any other car and like any other car there will be things wrong with this one and they can be fixed. Even with such low mileage you have to expect to spend $10K in the first year anyway.

Give the guy and the car a break!

How about any drive! If I have to be somewhere on time I take the Toyota. If there is no pressing need and I want some fun I take the 928. Only a fool would guarantee a 928 to make it around the block much less on a drive from state to state. The lower the miles the less likely the car is to make it anwhwere. Besides how many timing belt jobs have you seen go wrong?
