French seams with contrasting stitching and the sport seats!!! Piping is the first thing to show any wear.

I was thinking piping for resale but that's been solved, my vote is french for a more up to date look.

Sports, hell yes! Get 'um while you can!

Don't think I didn't think about that! Can't afford to do the dash, pod and console, those will remain black anyway so I can do them at a later date. This is such a hard decision for me......Anyone remember the car interior I referred to earlier? I can't fnd it. I will keep looking.

I'm a French guy...wait a minute, that came out wrong.

I'm going with French seams in my modest interior upgrade. On the existing covers the piping is worn the most...besides, I like the contrasting stitching.

Definitely go for the french seam over the piping.

Up until this post, I was always wondering what the difference was between the sport seats and the standard ones. I knew I had the sport seats, but couldn't imagine what a "non-sport" seat would be doing in any type of a Porsche. Now that I know, I say that if I can fit my fat *** into the sport seats in my car, you'd may as well go for them too.

I need help with the photos I am looking for. It was in a discussion about color combos for interiors or was in a post for cars for sale, a long time ago. Was a tan with piping, black car and very striking. Any help is appreciated.

Upholstered boat seats are over stuffed and tufted in a diamond tuck and roll configuration for comfort and durability. Adding corded piping helps prevent the stuffing from migrating and maintains cushion shape. Upholstered chair and couch cushions benefit when corded piping is used in edge seams to make the edges crisp and help to prevent the cover from shifting keeping the cushion neat and adding durability and strength to the edges. ......." Just one opinion.
Jim,

there is nothing in there that applies to our seats. These statements reference a piece that would be loosely filled with a batting surface. In that case, a piping would definitely add shape and rigidity.

But our seats have molded foam shapes that stand on their own. The piping is there purely as a decorative element and truth be told, it is a cheap and fast way of making a quality cover.

In terms of solidity, there is no comparison between a French seam and a piping edge. When properly done, a French seam is many times stronger. The seam does not rely on one thickness of leather for strength, it relies on two thickness on each side + a cross grain canvas backing.

Now if you make a French seam without the proper reinforcement, that's another story. A seam like that would be quite weak. Weaker than a piping actually.

A lot of hand work involved, but Linda is pretty good with hand lacing

Hmm, maybe. It would be on a set of Recaro's. If I'm going to re-do this interior, I want different seats. I like the sport seats in the car, would rather have a racing bucket that reclines.

I'd love to do something like the glove stitch but it needs to be done in a custom car that is as wild on the outside as it is on the inside.

Debi's new '08 CAddy CTS has French seams----

wish I'd thought of it when I started recovering my interior, but it still looks good anyway---

Stupid camera make the leather look "pinkish", but it's really dark brown with tan inserts.
