Not really worried about resale, just what I like. Yes, I am doing the rear seats as well. I am leaning toward the more factory look.

Paul has my sports seats there also. I am getting linen with black piping. I'm also having him do a matching set of door inserts with black piping.

When they come back I'm pretty sure the seats will be the best looking part of my car.

I personally prefer French seams because it's the natural update to that particular seat design.

When done correctly, all the seams are reinforced and the whole becomes much stronger.

I have nothing against piping, especially when using contrasting colors, I just think that French seams are a nice way to update the look of a 928 interior.

These are Sterling seats:

Good God those seats are money. I'll take a pair of manual sport seats, perforated leather, french seams, in black please. Call me in 2010 when your backlog is cleared out, Paul!

Thanks Paul...those look amazing! Still trying to imagine them with black thread. My biggest concern with piping is the cracking and splitting I have seen on older seats.

I can always send you a couple of samples: one French seam with black thread and one with black piping.

As for the piping cracking, keep in mind that even on leather seats, Porsche used vinyl piping. The piping on your seats would be leather.

Didn't know that...thanks for that bit of info!! It's not necessary to send anymore stuff. I will decide tonight and email you the list.

It's no problem really. You could put both samples on your seat bolsters. Once in context, it might make the decision easier.

I have wondered about this , lifted from a patent application.."There are several reasons to use piping. Piping is used to accent seams and or stiffen edges. It adds a fashionable and inexpensive accent to seams. Corded piping can be added to any edge where seams are joined. To add durability, corded piping will help hold an over stuffed cushion together. Upholstered boat seats are over stuffed and tufted in a diamond tuck and roll configuration for comfort and durability. Adding corded piping helps prevent the stuffing from migrating and maintains cushion shape. Upholstered chair and couch cushions benefit when corded piping is used in edge seams to make the edges crisp and help to prevent the cover from shifting keeping the cushion neat and adding durability and strength to the edges. ......." Just one opinion.

Like I said I wondered how piping came to be used , what purpose or benefits did it offer that made it so popular to use.

French style - no contest.

Piping is so '70s.

Perry
When I had my seat restored they replaced the crack stock piping with leather......fast forward two years later and it is just now starting to show some wear...not bad & not enough for anyone who's not a freak like me to even notice...but I'm a freak..I do think the french seams is stronger and will last longer

I thought about switching out all of the piping to contrasting black leather....it would look sweet....

If I was going "big" in terms of an all out custom Paul job...I would go with the "sport" option seat (stock seat features with pauls added sport bolsters)..in a 12 way power seat...with the contrasting stitching french seams....of course I would have the dash-pod-center console all matched in leather with contrasting stitching too....

The bummer is my dash-pod-center console are all perfect.....so its kinda pointless to "restore" them :>(
