Don't know if this is the same W/ 86.5 but when I replaced my factory slotted wheels W/ a set of 17 in. 993 cups I had to remove the spacer. This left me W/ the decision of either cutting down the studs or buying a set of open lug nuts. I ended up cutting down the studs only to regret it when I decided to use the slotted wheels W/ a set of victor racers for auto crossing. I had to buy a spacer W/ extended studs to use the slotted wheels then take it off to put the 17in cups back on.

remove the spacer w/993 cups????

cut off the studs, too?

holy crap. something sounds really strange about this......

86.5 has the "big black" Brembo calipers, so you can't use the 15 inch wheels.

Any way, you can find deals on wheels/tires at several places:

eBay, Rennlist classifieds, Pelican parts classifieds, etc.....

Can only go W/ my experience on this. When I installed a set of 993 style wheels that I got from 928 International the back spacing is different than the back spacing on my factory slotted wheels MY '85. If I left the factory spacer on, the 993 wheels would rub on the rear fender. Again this is for MY '85. I did not" cut off "the studs I cut them down so I could use the factory lug nuts.

Something to keep in mind when you are going from the 928 flat dish wheels to the more modern looking Boxster or 993 style spoke wheels is that you are sacrificing strength for appearance.
The Fuchs flat dish wheels are forged but the "modern" spoked wheels are cast. HUGE difference in strength - which is one reason the flat dish wheels retailed for over $1,100 EA!
