Default Where is the dead rat in my fresh air intake?

A rat or somthing has got into my inside air intake. It smells REALLY bad inside, and it smells near the right hand hood hinge. I took off the back splash guard of the right front wheel but no smell in there. Need to pick up the in-laws from the airport on friday. Any hints on where to look ???

Try looking under the plastic cover over the wiper motors.

I was going to say under the fender liner because there are lots of places one coud hide, especially around the washer tanks, pumps and stuff. Other than that, have you been under the car? Maybe he is cooking on the exhaust.

BTW, in-laws will love riding in the back seat...no better impression to leave them with, lol.

Smells really bad inside=somewhere in the vent system. Maybe take it apart from underneath the glove box?

BTW- Who cares, it's only the in-laws, right?

Edit: There's a little flap in the firewall, PS behind the engine. Where does that go? I found all kinds of crap in there when I first got my car. You have to get under the car and reach up, pulling the stuff down into your face.

Just lock a buzzard in your car for a day or two. Rat problem solved.

Now what eats buzzards?

Thanks I've been out working on the car.
It looks realy clean and no sign of rat under the wiper area cover. The smell is coming from the screen beside the blower motor, but that doesn't seem to connect to the fender-well. Where does the fresh air come from (entrance from the outside) ???

Fresh air comes from the area between the firewall and bulkhead on the far passenger side. This is the area where the blower motor is - the air is sucked in at the base of that area. The recirc flap - selects to suck air from the passenger footwell instead. However in neither mode is this 100% exclusive - maybe up to 10% leakage from the other feed in each case...

But you might try recirc mode on the HVAC to reduce the smell.

Check the drain (forward to the firewall) - is it blocked with leaves.. do you have something dead down in that area... to really clean it out you have to remove the blower motor and intake flap box underneath it... a fairly major project...

If its clean you can try flushing a little - but check for leaks at the CE panel if you do.
