Make Rob Edwards curious about it?

86 Row vin range is known, run each one through something like the PET lookup and check for the option codes.

Maybe other ways, but those should work.

1986 ROW RHD 928's: 541

15 sold in Hong Kong
350 sold in England
4 to British servicemen stationed in Germany
150 to Australia
3 to South Africa
19 to Singapore

The data are a little weird, tho- 359 of 541 are listed as M249 Automatics, and another 122 are listed as M251 Automatics, which are shorter geared for Switzerland, Australia, and Sweden. Finding it hard to believe that 481/541 (89%) of '86 RHD 928's were automatics, though I guess it's possible.

EDIT: PET sez 66 have G28.10 gearboxes, or 12%. So there's some inconsistency between the gearbox listing and the M-codes.

What else did you need to know?

He asked about 5.0L RoW 86's RHD

CountryCode GearboxCode Count(*)
C23 A28.11 120
C23 G28.10 30

All Australian, no other RHD countries got the 5.0L engine.

And sadly, yes Australia had/has stupid-high numbers of autos compared to manual.

Ah yes, my reading comprehension is weak tonight.

Learn something every day- I never realized that only the US, Japan, and Australia got the 5L motors in '86. And all the '86 Japanese cars (all 57 of them) are all LHD, and all are automatics. Guess I need to broaden my horizons a bit....

A few 1986 5.0 were delivered in Europe also:
265 cars
214 in Germany
49 in Switzerland
2 in Autria

79 manuals (M28/45 engine)
186 automatics (M28/46 engine)

And I also know one of these engine ended into a Mercedes G-Class, used for the Paris-Dakar, to provide assistance to the 959s:

LOL, apologies - I'd meant it was my reading comprehension which failed - that comment replaced the message I wrote before I re-read the question :P

Yes, of those 120 were automatics as Hilton already wrote. Japan got 5L engine but all 100 cars imported in 1986 were C08 LHD.

Can someone with admin rights edit #1 post? I'd like to get updated table from #80 into it. It would be great to have all latest data in first message.

Whoever provided that specific information as part of the overall and otherwise very nice article on the last ever produced 928 (as per Aryan post #83 and my follow up post #86), did not study the official and public German figures long enough. 223 is the number of the year 2012 known base 928 only (= excluding 928S and upwards numbers).

Always nice to have a government statistics department that does produces this kind of detailed yearly information of car's on the road, info can be found from here for the German numbers of 928's on the road as per January 2013:

Page 105: 240 * 928
Makes for a total of 3686 of 928's still registered in Germany on 01.01.2013

Sorry Harvey, its a 1978 - the VIN data from PET only goes from 1980 upwards. To get more info, you'll need to go direct to Porsche.
