Default AHHH GAS IS $3.33 a gallon

Yesterday I paid $3.33 a gallon, in fabulous sunny ca!!!
The problem is that I KEEP putting it in!
I averaged 10 MILES A GALLON....in the city, of course.
*swollwing hard to fend off the swears trying to be voiced!*
This cant be normal...any tips??? Does it sound like a problem with my driving??? or my lil one?

Most likely is the driving.... It recently passed the dyno smog test correct ? so it must be running reasonably well. So air up the tires , press lightly on the gas pedal . coast up to stop and do NOT downshift and engine brake , and never rev it over about 2,500 RPM ..... ! At which point it is little more fun than driving a Prius

10 MPG does seem low. On my Supercharged GT I get 10 MPG in the city and that's flogging the crap out of it with my green-giant injectors! They're massive! (I just said I have a massive injector... )

Mind out of the gutter... I think an 84 should get around 14MPG around town and about 20 on the highway. I can think of two things that might cause this. One is a stuck wide-open-throttle (WOT) switch, and the other is possibly a bad temp sensor that is making the car go into an enrichment mode.

I'd try not flogging it so hard around the city and see what you get.

Too bad it fires immediately upon start-up.

What do the spark plugs look like? Sooty/dark brown? If it's running properly, in stock tune, they'll usually be nearly white.

Why do you say that?

I know on S4's (and thought it to be true on L-jets too) that when you come off throttle that the fuel is cutoff until you hit ~1,400 RPM. Therefore, engine braking would be the most economical method of braking as there is no wear and tear on the braking surfaces.

I'm sorry, but I don't know enough about the L-jet cars (that's what you have) to be useful. There is a temp 1 and a temp 2 sensor. One of them causes an enrichment (extra gas) when it's cold. If that's faulty, it might cause a very rich mixture and would wast a lot of gas.

If you had it smogged lately, and it passed, then it's probably your driving habits.

You're going to need this sooner or later if you're only getting 10 mpg in the city. 408.720.9146. You may also need a bail bondsman; I like 1.800.300BAIL, but you might need a deed to a house because they don't take credit or debit cards. And don't worry about an attorney because I know a great one in your area (if you can afford him and you had better be able to do so with that kind of behavior. Whew!! I get 14 - 16 in the city and 20 - 22 on the freeway if I stay below 100 mph, and I have a spastic right ankle. I'm always on it. When you're my age anything that gets you off becomes addictive so I flog this machine all day long. Peel out of Whole Foods parking lot, lay a patch in front of the police station, pass on the shoulder on the right, whatever it takes to get my jollies. But I don't get that kind of mileage!! Have you got some kind of exhibitionist tendencies? You people in SoCal are that way I suppose. The first number is mine, by the way. Just remember you get TWO calls from jail in California. I have an 800 number too in case you don't have a dime while you're waiting to be booked. And remember to never admit to anything at all. Deny it ever happened. Just don't come to Sunnyvale and try that stuff around here, "cause the Sunnyvale police are peace loving and intolerant of such things.

Ron... you're starting to show your age. Phone calls from a payphone haven't been a dime for over 20years. It's costs a quarter now. Sorry to pop that bubble.
