TYP-04 message means the digital dash was getting low voltage beyond it's parameters and it was unable to retain it's memory. Means the battery is low or starting to fail. It's a low voltage condition that has nothing to do with voltage when the car is running.

I'm with Jim.

If the battery really is good and you charged it, but this happened 4 days later, then you need to rule out a parasitic drain as well. Put a multimeter set to read amps/miliamps across the battery ground, then pull the ground cable so the meter becomes the ground path. You'll need to close the hatch and make sure all the lights are out and the car has not been run for 45 minutes. The reading should be 30ma, but anything around 50 is acceptable, especially if you have any electrical add-ons.

Got battery installed and took it for a spin. Just down the road from my house it lost most of its power and went into a limb mode. From http://www.nichols.nu/tip817.htm it sounds like this may be the problem.

"One way to quickly identify that is to look at the module that is fitted next to the EZK spark control unit in the passenger compartment and look for a red or green LED" Where is this located?

I also let the car idled tonight and took my time to look for "lightning bugs". After 5 seconds or so I start seeing them. I think I have at least 6 bad wires. Brhh, I need new spark plug wires as well :-(.

Gio-

Relays in the same cover arae where the EXK/LH brains reside. Leaky plug wires won't keep the battery from charging. The relay looks for even temps between the cylinders fired by right vs left distributor, using thermocouples in the exhaust manifolds. A weak spark, misfire/no fire, or a bad/weak injector are possible causes of a cylinder dropout, ultimately causing the car to go to 4-cylinder mode. So the plug wires could indeed be a cause of the wqeak/poor performance via the protection relay.

Thanks Bob,

It seems the battery was tired and had to be replaced, probably unrelated to the real issue. Hopefully the wires are the culprit!!!!
