Default Does anyone know what this is??

Hello all,
I hope you all had a great Turkey Day!
I'm wondering if this part has something to do with the alarm system. I couldn't find anything in the PET and the electrical wiring diagrams manual suggests there is a "Door Contact Engine Compartment". The cable release for the hood is connected to this bracket (underneath) and this cylinder is connected to the bracket. A couple of wires were coming out of it but didn't go anywhere so I don't know for sure where this thing goes to or what its function is. Does anyone know?? THANKS!

Here's a closer picture. The PO apparently installed an aftermarket alarm (Clifford). I'm not sure if this was part of it - I was planning on removing it but not if it belongs there (factory) and simply needs to be repaired....THANKS.

Likely part of the alarm system - probably a detector to sound the alarm in case the hood was lifted. Is there a corresponding metal point on your hood? Many aftermarket alarms offer an impact-sensor feature that triggers the alarm when someone causes vibration to the chassis. This might be part of that too.

Whaterver it is, it's not stock. Just the other day I took off the little washer tank from the parts car and there is nothing nex to it. As a matter of fact was looking right at that spot last night thinking of using it for alcohol injections, so I'm positive there is nothing there on the '85 and the '86.5s.

Andrew, Borys, 84totheFloor, and Imo000,
Thanks for the confirmation. There is no contact point on the hood but there is a cable coming out the left side that is attached to the hood latch release cable. I'm with you, I think it must be part of the aftermarket alarm system (which doesn't work anyway). Therefore, it's coming out (along with anything else that looks like it belongs to that alarm system. THANKS again for the help!
